"Were they telling me to run?"

I swore I'd not see another goddamn New England winter. Yet, here I am, a year later. We got our first snow this morning, a shitty, scabby affair, but a reminder, all the same, that I failed to get out when I ought to have gone. A reminder of what's to come. Currently, it's overcast and 35˚F (feels like 24˚F). The beginning of this year's stale hell.

Today and tomorrow, I have to finish "Excerpts from An Eschatology Quadrille." I have no more than 1,500 words to go, and maybe less. And then I have to write something for Sirenia Digest #119 (which is going to be late, and I apologize for that).

I went to bed oddly early last night, sometime around 1 a.m. I was exhausted and fell asleep almost immediately, but it was a fitful sleep, filled with some of my worst nightmares in a long, long time.

Yesterday, we somehow made it to a noon showing of The Hateful Eight at the Providence Place cinema, in glorious 70mm. The film is bloody and fucking marvelous. Superb. And being able to see an actual projected film, without all the ugliness inherent in digital projection, that was very, very fine.

A thought, a non sequitur: There is nothing I enjoy that I enjoy more by its having been made more difficult.
