Well, I got a call from my internet coordinator on Monday, and it sent me into a blur of activity. Of the four major post-houses in L.A. (Todd-AO, Margarita Mix, Chace, and Larson), he got a frantic call from Larson asking for interns. I called Larson, and 5 minutes later, I had an interview for Tuesday. I went in on Tuesday, and after a 20 minute interview, I had the position. I started interning for Larson on Wednesday, and I've been having an interesting time of it.
The first day was pretty boring, because after I met some people, there wasn't much to do... correction: there was a lot to do, but they didn't trust me with any of it. Such is the way of interns. I helped organize the vault (a locked room they keep all of their storage media in) and I striped LTC on some DA-88's. The most interesting thing was that I found out that evidentially my roommate J. is interning at Larson too; he had started the day I had my interview. I find myself becoming sneaky and paranoid, because he is at the same facility I'm at, looking to do the same thing I want to be doing - sound design and foley. I smell conspiracy in everything, and consequently I worked VERY hard today to continue to promote my image among the crew. I think I'm getting ridiculously sensitive to little things... or maybe I already was, and now I need to toughen up to deal with L.A. Two new interns are coming in next week, and I don't know how many people Larson would be looking to hire, if more than one. I'm tense and jittery.
Although because I've been getting familiar with the people and the way things work around there, I'm being trusted to do more than just stripe DA-88's. Today I consolidated several dailys of 'Wildfire' and 'Trading Spouses'. I also get to see all the newest episodes of 'Weed' and 'The Shield' (all these shows are having their post handled by Larson). Evidentially, Larson was also behind 'Robodrome', 'Candid Camera', and 'Blue Collar Comedy', although the last one made my enthusiasm drop just a bit.
Actually, I need to admit that I'm assisting on a new show called, "Hip Hop Harry". Words cannot express my shame.
Hip Hop Harry. This is so fucking sad... I just... JESUS.
I got to enter the sound design lab today, and we were asked to come up with a couple of sound effects for a new episode of 'Wildfire'! I was really excited about it. If we do a really good job, then we might get more of that to do, becuase evidentially the normal sound designer at Larson is swamped with work. I told my boss that I'd be happy to take care of it. Such a pleasant surprise, sseming as how it was only my second day.
Well, I want to call an end to my 18-hour day and go to sleep... so, goodnight.
