Its Time For a Fat Girl Revolution!

I've been trying to find plus-sized prom dresses online for hours and I have the biggest headache. Its so stupid! Either I find only ugly, dowdy, old-lady dresses, or the "plus sizes" only go up to 14, or the selection is about four items, or the only well-cut stuff is in depressing colors or I actually find something that isn't too crappy but I could never afford it.
Then I had to go and find this beautiful site, and now I don't think I'll be happy with anything that isn't as super retro and flouncy as what I found there.

This sort of thing happens a lot, and it pisses me off sooooo much (yeah, five o's worth, and I was holding back!). I. Just. Don't. Get. Why companies don't release plus size items! And when they do, why is the selection so small? And/or the styles so unflattering? And you can pretty much forget trying to find anything unique or "alternative," especially ever since Torrid sold out. I remember when the whole site was black and red and you could narrow your search by styles like "Rockabilly," "ska," "punk," and "goth." Now all they have is a small, sad section for these sort of things called "edge."

Yeah, I know that being my size isn't so healthy, and I'm working on it, but that really shouldn't be the issue. It isn't the fashion industry's job to punish me and girls like me for whatever "sin" it is to be fat. No, actually, as I recal its their job to produce clothes and make money. And while I don't have much of it, if a store came out with clothes that fit all my above criteria (with maybe even a little "edge" mixed in), then they'd have the monopoly on what moolah I have, and I know I'm not the only one.

Actually, I just wrote a poem about this for english class about a week ago, inspired by a trip with Cait to the mall and H&M, where the new clothes are rad but the size range is lacking (I told you this happens a lot):

A Proposal

More than half our nation is overweight
It is time that fashion come up-to-date.
Dangerous thinness is a dying trend.
Stores wanting money would be wise to tend
To young women of every shape and size
Who when out shopping very much despise
The lack of clothes that actually fit
Its frustrating enough to make them quit.

This obsession with weight leads girls to death
Many starving themselves to their last breath.
While some will hate themselves because they can’t
Their super-slim dreams seem way too distant.
And the night of the dance the big girl cries:
The dress is ugly and tight in the thighs.
There’s no reason for the pain and the scars
These girls hurt for being who they are.

Big girls have majority, and it’s true
That they’d like to shop where all their friends do.
Style should not exclude those of some girth
And pant size should not dictate ones self-worth.
A twelve isn’t plus size, not by a stretch
But if you increase your size range, you’ll fetch
Happy new customers, out of the blue.
All of this time they’ve been waiting for you.

That second bit's a little over dramatic for my tastes, but by the approach we were supposed to use we were supposed to dwell on the negative and heart-tugging there, then go into the positive and call-to-action in the last (the first being an intro). I plan on sending this without explaination to several stores, H&M included.

Anyway, yeah, I guess this rant's over, for now (if only because this headache is killing me and I've been putting off dinner for hours while doing the search).

In other news, the meds made my heart skip beats and speed up, so I switched to new meds (Provigil) that seems to be working okay, right now. Hopefully things will turn out well.
