We did quite a few fun things this summer...
Anna, Kyle, Jaclyn, and I went to Berkeley to see Miyazaki get interviewed by a prof; there, I also saw Tomoya--I had forgotten how tall he is and how strongly he smells of Old Spice. There were forced smiles and of course, a lack of conversation.
Miyazaki himself was hilarious...something of a cross between a teddy bear and Totoro, and very evasive in his answers; he spent most of his time telling unrelated anecdotes--the prof asked, "We notice a trend of characters who don't look like what they are supposed to be--for example, Ponyo is supposed to be a goldfish--is this a Japanese convention?"
Miyazaki: "We were going to make Ponyo a red tin frog, but then we thought that might be difficult to make a story out of."
TOTALLY unrelated. xD
Afterward, we went to Angeline's Kitchen, a Cajun restaurant on Shattuck. We were told "15 minutes!" which turned into an hour long wait, during which we noted that the hacker in front of us was on the Sims 3 development team [I was totally starstruck] and that one of the diners looked like either Anton Ego from Ratatouille or a film director.
