When Reita came to the hospital the next day he found his mother was already there. He walked into the room to see her standing by Saga’s bed. Her eyes were fixed on his belly when Reita walked in. When she entered the hospital room Saga was still asleep and she didn’t want to wake him up. She observed him. This was the first time she saw what her son called the love of his life.

The news Reita had poured onto them was a bit overwhelming. He was going to have a child. When she asked him if the was going to do the right thing and marry the mother of his child she had no idea she was about to get the shock of her life. Reita simply told her that he can’t legally marry the baby’s mother because it’s a man. She thought Reita was confused or simply joking. But it was neither of those. Reita was dead serious.

She couldn’t cope with it so she simply like any other mother gave into denial. She refused to think about it or even hear anything of the matter. But at times the thought would simply come to her. No matter the way, she was going to be a grandmother. At some point she had decided that there was no need for her to accept the baby’s mother so that she can be a grandmother.

But then Reita called. He said his lover was in a hospital and he nearly miscarried. She was distressed by the news. And now she was looking at the nature little miracle that sneaked its way into all their lives. Was it right? Would it have been better if he did miscarry? She felt horrible that it even crossed her mind but she couldn’t help but wonder. Maybe that child wasn’t meant to happen.

He was pretty. She observed the sleeping boy’s face. There was no doubt he was attractive. He must have looked very fit before the baby’s growth took its toll on his body. The baby. She looked at the now large belly. It was there. So many thoughts can rush through a mind at the same time and you still won’t grasp a single one wholly. Did this boy know what he was doing? Was he brave of irrational? Or was it something else, something more. Was he, beyond the exterior of a man, just a caring mother worried for the child? He is a mother even if he is a ‘he’.

Saga shifted in his sleep but he just turned his head to the side and groaned softly. He placed his hand on his belly. Reita’s mother smiled. She saw how his brows furrowed. The baby must have made a sudden move. She soon realized she was smiling warmly at the sight. Even if Saga was a man he chose his child over his safety and pride, it couldn’t have been a very dignifying idea to be a man carrying a child. A very motherly thing to do, self-sacrifice. She wanted to place her hand on Saga’s belly but she jerked away as she heard the door open.

She turned around to see her son and with a smile she gestured to him to stay outside. She too came out. She took her son in a warm embrace and told him they have her blessing. She winked at him and told him his lover is very beautiful. When they came back in they woke Saga up. He was happy to finally meet Reita’s mother. And even happier that she seemed content with their situation. She asked them if the knew the gender and Saga told her it’s a girl. Then she left them with a good question.

“We really should think of a name.” Saga said as he snuggled into Reita’s arms.

“We still have time. We can do it after she is born.”

“But I want to call her by her name, not use some generic names like “baby”, “baby-girl”, “sweetie” and stuff like that.”

Reita snorted, “Well Kai will be disappointed, he loves using the baby-girl one.”

Saga seemed to ignore him. “I want a short name. Something simple but not common.”

Reita raised an eyebrow in thought. “Simple but not common?”

“I like the name Lana. It sounds nice, it has a nice ring.”

“But that is not even a Japanese name! Why do we have to give her a western name?”

Saga broke the hug and looked at Reita. He pouted “I like that name. And I checked it out. It’s a Russian name. It sounds pretty and that should be all that matters.”

Reita sighed, “I don’t deny that the name sound pretty. It does. But can we at least see through other options. We should at least consider hiving her a more traditional name.”

“How about: Akane or Junko?”

“Junko sounds too mushy. Really. But I like Akane.” Reita really did like that name better the ‘Lana’.

Saga frowned “It’s not mushy! Do you have nay bright ideas?”

“Megumi.”

Saga looked at him again but this time without scowling. “I actually like that.”

“So let’s see what we have so far: Lana, Akane or Megumi.”

Saga snuggled back into Reita’s arms. “We’ll decide when I get home. I don’t want to name her here. It would be different to name her in a hospital after her birth but not like this.”

Reita didn’t really see much clarity in that but made not effort to contradict. He kissed Saga’s forehead and held him tighter. He felt much better now that his mother at least gave them her blessings.

Saga couldn’t help but laugh when they walked back into the apartment. There was a nice assortment of stuffed animals waiting for them in the living room. The look on Reita’s face was priceless. He looked freaked out and nauseated at the same time.

“It has come! It’s the invasion!!! See?! I told you if we let them in they would sooner or later call for reinforcements!”

Saga laughed and pet his lover’s head. “Calm down. They are just toys.”

“How did those bastards get them in here?” He picked up a card tied around the neck of a giraffe. It said: ‘To the little baby and the big daddy from Uruha.’ Then there was a grinning face drawn under it.

“I forgot Shou still has a key. He must have let them in.” Saga walked around the room and picked up a particularly adorable teddy bear. He sat down where the teddy was and hugged it. “This is really nice of them.”

Reita had his nose wrinkled as he looked around. “I guess.”

Saga sighed, “It’s not like it that much toys.” He looked around and counted them. “Fifteen.”

Reita crumbled up the note from Uruha and mumbled something like ‘stupid giraffe’.

Saga sank into the sofa and asked Reita to make him some tea. He lifted his legs onto the coffee table and looked at the teddy. He smiled and spread the teddy’s little hands and placed him to hug his belly. “Look sweetie, this is a teddy and he loves you.”

Reita decided to turn back into the kitchen. What he saw was just too cute and he had to giggle but he didn’t want to get told off by Saga. He did turn back to ask Saga what kind of tea he wanted when he saw Saga hugging the baby with the teddy. It was pure and adorable. It really was and he couldn’t deny it.

Saga got off the sofa and gave into taking all the toys into the room they chose to be the nursery. They had very little work done in it so far. It was mostly the place Reita threw in all the toys, but taking pity on them Saga would always come in and put them in more dignifying positions from their place on the floor. There were a few shelves in the room as it was in the moment and they were already filled with toys. So Saga placed the new arrivals on the bed that was still in the room.

“We should really get to work on turning that room into the nursery. Well at least me and the other guys. You can’t work.”

Saga turned around to look at Reita that brought him his tea. “I can help a bit.”

Reita shook his head. “No you can’t! You need to rest as much as you can! You know what the doctor said!”

It was true. Before they left the hospital the doctor came to Saga’s room. He told them that Saga was to stay on bed rest. He was to move around as little as possible and be sheltered from any kind of stressful situations. The doctor told Reita that Saga was not to be left alone for too long and that if he had to go out he should call someone to stay with Saga.

Saga did try to protest, but he just got scolded. The doctor was still concerned with how fast Saga dilated with only a few contractions. It was more that just high blood pressure. But he didn’t tell that to Saga.

That morning when Reita came to the hospital to pick up Saga the doctor called him to his office. Reita sat down and the old man sat beside him.

“There is something I haven’t told Saga. He wouldn’t take it very well. But I need to tell you all the facts.”

Reita looked mortified, what was he going to say.

“It’s not just the high blood pressure, although that did play its part. I think that the reason why Saga dilated is because his body got confused in a different way then I originally thought. Think about it. Saga is a man. I think his body is trying to reject the child. Push it out before the term.”

Reita’s eyes widened.

“I have placed Saga on medication that will try to correct that. If he stays calm and rested everything will be alright. So when I say he needs to be in bed as much as possible I mean it. This has become a dangerous pregnancy but only for the baby. Sure it’s also bad for Saga; I doubt he would ever recover if he lost his child.”

“Don’t even say that!” Reita yelled at the doctor.

“I’m sorry. But please, make sure he takes his medication on time. He needs to stick to the diet we have prescribed and he needs to move as little as possible. I will have him admitted into the hospital two weeks before the term. Maybe sooner.”

Saga looked at the floor and dropped the toy he was holding. He didn’t like being yelled at, especially by Reita.

“I’m sorry honey.” Reita walked over to Saga and took him into his arms. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to yell.”

Saga buried his face in Reita’s chest. “I’m sorry too. I really should be more careful.”

Reita kissed the top of Saga’s head, “The doctor knows what is best for you and the baby. I know this will be hard, but I’m here for you.”

Saga nodded and returned the hug.

“You need to rest love. And don’t worry about the nursery; there is a bunch of mules I’ll get to work on that. They will be more useful that way then buying toys.”

Saga looked up at Reita, “I feel kinda bad about not being able to help with those things.”

“You are doing a job no one else can do. And you are doing more then anyone. You need to take care of yourself and our baby. Please honey.” Reita took Saga face in his hands and kissed his soft, warm lips.
