I'm doing a half-day of work today, because technically I'm staying one extra week so that I can have Fridays off...but I feel guilty cause I was tres lazie this week, so the least I can do is come in and pretend to work and post more pics :)
Last night the villa hosted a modern ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet, performed by this dance company sponsored by the Florence Opera House Association/Coalition/Something Important. The ballet itself was very nice - the dancer playing Juliet was very good and bendy, and she was the only one to dance point, which was very elegant. But there were quite a few modern dance-style weird moves in there. Like they had Tybalt and Mercutio identify themselves with a single move - Tybalt's move was like some weird Egyptian snake-deal, and Mercutio's was like an orangutang. I swear, a frikkin' orangutan, except he held his hands down in front of him instead of over his head. I mean, I know the move is supposed to show that Mercutio is a joker, but still - now he's a big, built, blue-suit wearing monke-...I mean, orangutan.
And I have to say, whichever catering company the villa uses for its events is AWESOME. The nibblies were wonderful, and they always have champagne to drink and make Bellinis with, which is tres chic. And for dessert they had lots of really nice fresh fruit, including a cauldron of cherries. A big, pedestaled, grape-leaf decorated cauldron filled with yummy cherries. I guess they had alot of cherries...
Tonight is WORLD CUP GOODNESS! Argentina versus Germany, and Italy versus Ukraine!! Now, on the outside, I have to root for Italy, because of my heritage and my sense of survival among insane Italian fans. But inside I'll be cheering for the Ukraine, who are new and young and playing well and have Andri Schevchenko. Tomorrow England plays Portugal, and Brazil plays France. Sooooooo cool!
And before I go, here are some scenery shots of Florence from different tall buildings - before I crushed them, of course :)
These are from the top of the Duomo...
And this is the Duomo, from atop the Bell Tower...
Have a great weekend!
