*snicker* You're probably right about the origins of this meme. The thing that irritated me was that I've read many of the other works by some of the listed authors, so what makes THESE particular books mean that a person is well read?

And for that matter, is it really all that important to be "well read"? I know a guy who only reads math books. I'm sure he never read ANY of these books and yet he's considered to be a genius. This was a fun meme because I AM a reader. But IMHO, any intake of any information that adds to ones knowledge base is just as valuabe, and honestly, as much as I love her work, what do you really get out of Jane Austen?

What I don't get is how they can justify putting both "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" on here. If you've read the latter it doesn't follow that you've read the former, but if you've read the former, you get to check off two. Meanwhile Harry Potter fans only get one.

I like things like this as it gives me a list of books to look for when I'm at the library :)
i have also had to paste it into another file so I can look at it later, but i have already spotted 7 in the last 20 that I have read!
