There is a bear in my yard and it won't go away. Seriously.
As I was getting up this morning and making tea etc. I heard a funny noise over by the front windows. Looked out the window and there was a small (about four feet long) black bear pulling the bird feeder off its pole and trotting across the yard with it. I yelled at it that it could have the food but I just wanted to keep the feeder (it would have been the third feeder dragged off by bears if it'd succeeded). The bear stopped on the walkway (probably about ten feet away from where I was standing on the porch) dropped the feeder and looked at me. I yelled at it to clear off again, and it picked up the feeder and moved a little further away into the weeds on the side of the house and proceeded to eat all the bird food out of the feeder despite my throwing sticks and yelling at it. Then it started in nibbling the weeds and just kind of hanging around.
It just now left (after more yelling on my part), it had hung around for a whole hour. If only the batteries in my camera and the extra batteries hadn't all been dead I would have had some awesome close up bear shots. It really was quite cute. I'm thinking maybe we should start keeping roman candles by the front door for scaring off critters, though.
Good thing it wasn't a zombie bear.
