Well, this has been an interesting few days. Lacey and I went down to Kentucky (where nobody knows how to drive) to camp at a place called Big Bear Resort. If any of you out there in LiveJournal Land ever want to go camping down there - DON'T! Especially if you want to do primitive (tent) camping. They took their RV campground and stuck three primative sites on the side of a hill (no level place for tent) right on the lake where people are zooming their bassboats and ski-dos all over. Imagine waking up at 9:00 am to the sound of: "VROOOOOOM!!! SPLASH!". Not pleasant. Plus there were no trash cans or even a real fire pit (We had to circle stones around a depression on the hill). To top it all off, the price tag was $12.75 a night! And we wonder why it came so highly recommended...
Oh, well. All in all, we had a great time, even though it rained hard enough to drown a toad. It was our first camping trip out of state, and what with what was going on at home, it was good to get away.
Speaking of what was going on at home, there's a story! Our house got struck by lightning! Came to ground right on our TV antenna. Fried every phone in the house, blew our satellite receiver, fried my computer's video, and zapped the VCR memory (but not the VCR). Oddly enough, when the bolt hit, the power didn't go off. And, even weirder, it actually FIXED the interference with the TV! Strange stuff, lightning.
My mom is still up north with my sister Mary, helping her recover from the tornado that destroyed her house. Both she and her husband said they'd never been so scared in their life. Fortunately, the insurance is taking care of things, albeit not without a lengthy inventory process. Pardon the weather reference, but when it rains, it pours!
Went mushroom hunting yesterday. The morels were up alright, but guess what? The rain we needed so badly was too much, and most of them got rotten! Yeah, imagine my surprise to find most of my mushroom spots covered with blue-green fuzzy morels. First there's not enough moisture, then there's too much. I give up!
Then, to top everything off (we need a cherry on this shit sundae?), Lacey comes to me last night and apparently, her asshat of a sperm donor's parents have been following her and hiring folks to track her down so they can harass the shit out of her, bringing up painful memories for her and claiming that they just want to get back in touch with the granddaughter they never knew. What a bunch of baloney - what kind of sick grandparent hires people to track your movements, follow you to school (in violation of the security policy) and approach you in between classes with a photo album of baby pictures and a card? That whole family is sick and twisted.
Well, this post is getting on the long side. Suppose I'll return to the land of webpage creating.
