Wow, that day sounded sad and depressing...that was probably my fault too...but now everything is ok and hopefully a little... brighter? :)
"Do we make our own world, does it make us, or will it be a certain way no matter what"
Hmm..I don't know if this will make any sense, but this is the way things are floating around inside my head: we don't make our own world, nor does it make us, in a sense. God controls every thing and situation in our lives, yet gives us freedom to decide the paths to take. He can work through any of our situations, even if we've made wrong choices.
you could say our world "will be a certain way no matter what" but that sounds kinda morose. (some philosopher probably just fell over)The choices we make definitely change and affect our world...mine certainly has changed in the last couple months. :) Though God knows exactly what decisions we will make, I think he gives us the ability and freedom to chose different paths. (Look at Adam and Eve). The beauty of it all is that He can still carry out his plan in our mistakes (see the life of Jonah);)
The idea that we make our own world kinda kicks God right out of the story (sorry to all offended philosophers!). The stuff we do definitely changes our world, but it doesn't "make" it...especially if you include all the rules we have to live by.
saying "our world makes us" doesn't give one a whole lot of freedom to really be one specific thing. While the world we live in changes/affects us in certain ways, we aren't (or at least shouldn't be) a blank canvas for the world to paint (part of being in but not of the world)
did i repeat myself a lot and use affect/effect incorrectly? hmm.. school doesn't start for another month. that is my lovely excuse. also, that was long...and possibly confusing ...what do you think: agree...disagree...confused.. bored to death? :).
makes perfect sense. I especially like the blank canvas idea. However (getting uselessly complex here) If We can affect the path but God controls the outcome does the path matter? (yes b/c God wants us to glorify Him in our decisions... but it's still something to think about) Lets leave out right and wrong and just focus on the paths and destination. Do our decisions change the destination, or just the path? hmm....... I guess leaving out sin is pretty unrealistic, but it helps make things overly simple.
thanks! I guess I would say that, concerning paths, God can teach us different things on different paths that lead to the same outcome (confusing??) Idk, maybe that's the wrong idea.
"Do our decisions change the destination, or just the path?"
Hmmm..that's a good one. I think it could depend on the decision- whether it's a major one or not..does that kinda make sense? If God wants us to get to a certain destination, we will make sure we get there no matter what. I think our decisions will change how LONG it takes us to get there. (like the children of israel; it took them 40 years to get to where God wanted them)...maybe that did not make sense..??..
