Dating Greed
Part 4
Warnings - plot! yayaness and a bottle of rum!
Fwip-fwip-fwip-fwip...
The contract was straight forward. Ambassador to Xing, Drachma and Aerugo. It was an office job mainly. No chances of muc travelling unless something happened. Talking to people, making them see reason, and the added bonus that maybe they'd respect him because he was a "Hero of the People" as some had entitled him. He bit his lip, thinking hard. Then, he signed his name. What else was he supposed to do now? He had no goal now and if he let himself remember that, if he let himself live without one, he wasn't sure how long he'd live.
"Very good, Fullmetal," Roy Mustang sat back in his chair, his smirk was complacent. Edward shrugged
"There's nothing else fr me to do," he explained lamely.
"I can't say that I am not sorry that you resigned your life away, but its better with an office job," Mustang replied.
"Great, when do I start?" Edward asked.
"Between one General and a Colonel...."
"Wait...Colonel?" Edward blinked.
"Yeah, here is your new rank," he handed the papers over, "You'e still a State Alchemist under the new Regime. They wouldn't take the Hero away from the people. You're also an Ambassador now," he gave Edward a considerate look.
"I think you should take the rest of the day off, you need to get a uniform. I know that you've been exempt from that rule. But its important that you look the part that your going to be. People will expect it,"
"I know," Edward stood.
"Well, see ya later General," Edward gave a lazy salute as h gathered up his coat and the papers. He waved good by to Hawkeye who still oversaw Mustang's office, but was Colonel herself. He breathed freely when he was out on the steps of the building that Housed the Parliment now. He had expected to lead the life he had always lead, but Mustang had come across this opportunity. An Ambassador was needed and the Parliment Head had asked that Edward take it. So, when he walked into that office, expecting smart assed comments and the like - but - getting someting else all together, and even the sudden jump in rank....
It was kinda cool. He was slightly excited. He couldn't wait to see Greed and inform him of it.
If only he had the guy's number. What sort of person was he to not ask for it? Edward noted to himself to do that as soon a possible.
He bypassed the Military outpost where uniforms and such were sold. He knew that they wouldn't have his size anyway, it'd be best to buy the material and make it himself.
He spent the rest of the afternoon gathering all of the ingrediets for the transmutation. He double checked the legality of his uniform. Not wanting to make a mistake with it. Thankfully, it looked a bit like the old one, except Lieutenant Colonel's had one strand of gold braind that went under their arm, and a full Colonel had two.
He got stuck at a bookstore for a couple of hours and bout two new books he didn't have. Despite the fact that he had a whole new pile at home. He also decided that a bit of a celebration for his new rank and job was needed. He bought a bottle of Drachma imported wine, cheese and chocolate. All in all, it was a very nice quiet afternoon. Till he got home.
"What the hell...?" he was stunned before he could grow angry. Someone had entered his home and delivered vases upon vases of flowers. None of it was from Greed. The cards said "From your secret admirer" - Greed would have signed his name. He didn't like not taking credit for something he did. Thank you very much. However, Edward had a pretty good idea who left them. Cursing his luck, he claped his hands and touched the wall and floor. The vases of flowers along the first floor suddenly turned to ashes. He stomped through and deposite his things on the breakfast table. Then he stomped upstairs to discover that he had successfully gotten rid of theflowers.
Edward, opened the back door the led from the kitchen. Clapping his hands again, he generated a huge gust of wind that swept into the house, picked up the dust and swept back out, taking the ashes of the flowers with it. Smirking at the fact that Wind Alchemy was more fun than anything he had ever done. Edward closed and locked the door. He needed to mak his uniform. He needed to make dinner and then he wanted to read his books.
The phone rang, wondering who would be calling him at this time of day, Edward picked it up; "Hello?"
"Edward, how are you doing?" it was Greed. Edward grinned
"Fine, you'll never guess what happened at work today," Edward said.
"Yeah?"
"I signedback up, but I'm an Ambassador, and I'm a Colonel now!"
"Wow, I am very impressed. We should celebrate," Greed suggested.
"I bought some Drachma wine, why don't you come over and help me drink it?" Edward tried to sound sexy, but he didn't think he had it right. Greed had burst out lauging and Edward knew he had botched it.
"I'd love to,"
Edward gave Greed directions to his house and they hung up; Edward turned to the kitchen. He had plenty of things for pasta, toasted breadand salad. The Chocolate would be dessert and he had the wine. Everything was a go, now all he had to do was get cooking.

Greed glanced at the foux-gold knocker, he messed with his hair before he put his arm behind him and rang the door bell. He had a hard time believing that Edward would just invite him over like that. He had thought that they would go out to dinner. But, it seemed that Edward wanted something a bit more intimate.
The blond opened the door, dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. His gold/blond hair in a low poy tail and a huge smile on his face.
"Thanks for the bracelet, I forgot to tell you that on the phone," Edward waved Greed through.
"I thought you'd like it," Greed replied. He walked into a nice home. The walles were part deep brown wood, part pale brown wall paper. There was a long table with a mirror sitting above it with the stair case directly after. The carpet on the stairs was a deep red while the front hallway boasted shiny wood. To his left was the living room, There was a huge fireplace, all ready crackling and heating the rather cold air. Two couch's were situated, facing each other, with a coffee table between. It was also wall to wall books. Though all the books had its proper place. A desk sat before the window that looked out onto the street, some leafs of papers littered the desk with a fogotten pen and a few books.
Edward took his coat and hung it up on the coat tree; "I have the table in the kitchen set and the food is all ready to go,"
"You cooked?" Greed askd, surprised. Edward gave him an irritated look before rolling his eyes.
"They say that Alchemy was practically invented in the kitchen. I learned from my old Teacher," Edward explained.
"I meant nothing by it," Greed came close to apologizing. Edward smiled suddenly.
"Sorry, I've been made fun of because of it,"
"It's all right, what did you make? it smells good," The kitchen was cluttered, but Greed figured that it was because of the impromptue date.
It was yellow with white cabinets. There was an island with a pan rack hanging above it. The back door had white curtains bunched at the top and bottom to make it harder for people to peep in. The table was set for two with a yellow table cloth and nice white plates with black stripes.
"I didn't have any good dishes. Winry bought all of this for me, but I had to run out after talking to you and get some wine glasses," he giggled. Greed smiled and took the proffered glass. It was a bit more than would have been served at a restaurant, but he had to admit that Edward had picked some good wine for being ignorant of the whole subject.
"So, an Ambassador, huh?" Greed asked. The silence had gone on too long for him.
"Yeah, it means that there won't be any travelling and its a nice cushy office job. But a lot of curtailing to random people who think they don't have to do shit for what they have," Edward sighed and put down his glass to put the bowl of pasta and sauce onto the table. Greed took up the platter of bread and set it down by the rest of it.
"Yeah?"
"Well, there is something that I have to tell you about. I am not sure how you'd take it, but don't hit me," Edward turned to the man he hoped would become more special in his life.
"I know that we had our fight befor, but this is different," Greed replied, "I'd never hit you, now, that is,"
"Okay, Ling Yao was a Prince when I met him, I don't know what he is now but....he has always had this thing for me and..."
"And?" Greed sat down at the table. Edward reclaimed his wine glass and followed.
"He seems to have come back, I don't think he knew that I'd take the position of Ambassador, but when I got home today, the first floor was practically covered with flowers from a 'Secret Admirer' - Ling always used that title when he left me things. I got rid of all he flowers. But, I wanted you to know because I don't....I don't want to ruin what we have, or whatever we will have," Edward explained.
"I understand, I'll take a swipe at this Ling person if he tries to force you into anything. But I won't ever hit you. Edward, I want this too, whatever it is and whatever you want it to be," Greed reached across the table to take hold of Edward's hand. Edward smiled.
"We should eat before the food gets cold,"
