What’s in a name?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet.” - William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet)

My World Lit professor gave me such a surprise by calling me by my NICKNAME this afternoon. And not only me, but my other classmates who approached him after class.

I have this image of him memorizing our faces and names through the index cards we gave him last week. Other than that, how else could he have known our names? We didn’t even do a get to know activity ever since class started a week ago. Nor does he ever call anyone to recite.

And what makes it freakier is… among five of us earlier, he made no mistakes.

Because of that, I forgot every one of my negative opinions of him for the past hour and had only one thought in mind: HE KNOWS ME. HE EVEN CALLED ME BY MY NICKNAME. And we practically haven’t even (really) talked before that.

I just respect teachers who make such great effort to know their students. Even little questions such as “What course are you taking?” makes a student feel so important.

So.. it’s a good thing I was got the chance to divert my attention to my laptop (I was going to copy the record of his lecture) after he addressed me (and the others, cause I listened) by my name, and thus, I was able to actually voice out what my real concern was in the first place.

Okay. That’s all I wanted to write about really. I have to study now~

note to self, whims, school
