Dear Miriam, Month 1

Jan 12, 2013 11:11

Dear Miriam,

Yesterday was your first month day, sweet girl, and what a month it was. Your birth was hard, and we got home with you in our arms on December 11. You had jaundice for that first week and were our little glow worm with your Billi-blanket. When you were 5 days old we discovered our breast feeding troubles were from a posterior tongue-tie & you had oral surgery to correct it when you were 10 days old.

On New Year's Eve your aunty Mandy told us there had been no heat at their house since June. (They finally had plumbers in today to sort out their radiators. I'm told it went well.) On January 1st our heat went out in sympathy for theirs, so we spent an awkward evening buying space heaters at 10 pm and hanging out with two strange handymen.

Yesterday, just down the road from where we live, a construction crew drilled through a 20 inch natural gas line. You and I (and Greta and Yuri) evacuated to the Bartons' house. Greta destroyed their backyard, Yuri and Kingsley got into a cat brawl, and you spent your first Month Day with Mandy & Lisa and had a very short nap on Mandy's dining room floor.

Other things that happened in the last month include a tremendously generous & long visit by your Grandma Bev. She was here for 6 weeks. it was lovely and we'll know better in the future. Everyone got sick: Mandy, Lizzy, Josie, Barton, G-ma, Grandpa Dave, Uncle Ben, you, me & poppa, Grandma Bev, *everyone.* There was your first Yule (& your baby blessing) & Christmas.  We learned to walk the dog without help, which doesn't sound like much but was tricky. Your poppa went back to work and I didn't kill you or the dog by being bad at this.

I love you.

baby, family
