Dear Friendslist: ARGH STOP TORTURING ME WITH YOUR ENJOYMENT OF OOTP. ;) Heh. We see it on Saturday at 8:20 PM, for Wes's birthday. The relevant Snarkfest thread has gone to the spoilertext of doom, now, too, so at least that's one less to read (of the approximately three I'm keeping up with right now: absolutely no internet dollars to anyone who can guess which ones).

Things that are great about Austin so far:

- The food. God, the food. We aren't going out to eat much, but the first couple of days before we could shop were awesome. And then, I went to H.E.B. and there was a tortilleria right in the middle of the store, and their house roast salsa rivaled the best I've had before. Also, the produce is just fresher than a lot in regular stores on the east coast, and you're more likely to get local stuff right in the store. Top of all that, it was cheaper. This is also Whole Foods' headquarters, so those are convenient, too. We won't be going there too often, though.

- It's a smaller town, really - most everything is easy to get to. There's also tons to do. I'm considering an art class for me and Carys through Abrakadoodle - how fun would that be?

- This house is wonderful; nice to have the space to expand into. Our cat has not woken us up early in two straight nights, and we think it's because of all the good prowly space.

- Things are just generally cool...lots of funky new places to look at and try someday.

Things that could be improved:

- Some of the stuff to do is downtown, and downtown is truly annoying and impossible around either of the rush hours. The two main North-South arteries (and some of the minor ones) clog right up.

- I need to stop using the move and getting settled (and even my job search) as an excuse not to exercise. I realize this is not the city of Austin's fault.

- Despite having made contact with Jason and a college friend, it doesn't feel yet like we have friends to hang out with. I haven't seen any prospects in the neighborhood. I'm hoping to meet people at the swim class that I hope to sign up for, and at the future Music Together and art classes.

- Cash flow. We came up with a solution for this month's credit card bills, but there're more hurdles to jump before we're back to being comfortable. I'm counting my blessings, though.

I know I suck about mentioning birthdays on LJ, but I have a trifecta coming up on my calendar: happy birthday to moonriddengirl tomorrow, my mom on the 13th, and my wonderful husband on the 14th. :*
