I tucked my files into the proper folder before locking my cabinet and turning around. Lilah was standing in the door way with an amused expression ( Read more... )

I was a nervous wreck waiting for Lindsey, I had no idea what he had planned and he refused to tell me. Talk about frustrating.

But I didn't have time to think about that for long. I'd just gotten off the phone that morning with Dawnie. I couldn't believe what she told me. She knows better then to play with the weapons in the house. Especially with Miss. Kitty around...

I spent the better part of the afternoon in tears. Not how I wanted to spend it. I packed and cried and then waited for Lindsey.

I had finally calmed down a bit when I heard him at the door. He was just what I needed. Between it being the week Mamma died and now Miss. Kitty....

Going away was very good.

I checked the mirror and I didn't look so bad on first sight, I turned and opened the door, he was standing there obviously in deep thought.

I giggled and he noticed me. "Hi.". I smiled up at him. "Hey." I murmured before wrapping my arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. I closed my eyes and tried to rid my thoughts as best I could. I wasn't going to cry ( ... )

"C-can we go...please..."

I noticed her eyes were a little red and she hugged me tighter than usual. Not that I minded but still it concerned me a little.

"Are you ok? Did something happen?"

My mind began to wander in places it never should. Had Lilah found out, had she stopped by or called Tara? What on earth had happened? I'd just seen her the night before and everything had been great, she'd been frustrated that I wouldn't spill my secret but still good.

I shook my head against his shoulder. "No..." I took a shaky breath and pulled back to look up at him. "Please...Lindsey..."

I swallowed hard and looked down, he was going to think it was so stupid and childish that I'm this upset over a cat...but Miss Kitty was different...

It really did mean that things were finished with Willow.

But I wanted that, I needed that. But that's why I left her with Dawnie. I thought Dawnie would take care of her... Why couldn't she have lied and told me that she lost her at kitten poker?

Lindsey touched my face and made me look at him, I took a deep breath and looked at him. I knew that I looked like I was going to laugh and cry at my own stupidness. "Dawnie killed my kitten..." Yes Tara, that sounds so mature.

I looked at her and pulled her to me hugging her tightly.

"I'm sorry." I kissed her forhead.

She looked up at me confused.

"What. Loosing pets is hard. Pets are the source of the only un-conditional love we get to experience, sometimes its harder to loose a pet than a person."

It might sound stupid to people who didn't have pets or never had one die, but they were important, compainons.

I looked at him and ran my hand down his cheek. "Not the only kind." I murmured, I leaned up and kissed his cheek.

I just shook my head and looked at him. "Another loop thrown by one Lindsey McDonald." I smiled slightly at him and wiped my eyes. "Ok, now, what's this trip you have planned? I packed things like you asked. Now I'm at a loss."

I smiled down at her putting my arm around her waist in a slightly possessive manner but I couldn't really help it. There was no denying the simple truth of this situation.

I wanted tara, and not in the throw down on the desk, never look her in the eye kind of way. Though the lust was definately a factor, but it was a lot more than that.

"I've kept the secret this long, I'm sure a few more hours won't kill you. Come on, we need to get to the airport."

I narrowed my eyes and pursed my lips at him. "You're just a big ol tease aren't you McDoanald." I purred his name and leaned into him, I moved back and got my bags, leaving him at the door to watch me.

I picked up my two bags and checked to make sure the machine was on before heading back to the door. "Lead the way." I grinned up at him and locked the door behind us before heading down to his truck. "Are you sure this character on four wheels...I hope four...can get us there in one piece?" I teased him and tossed my bags in the back of the truck before fighting with the door to get in. I had a lot of patients for this rusty hunk of metal but I was excited to see what he had planned. I wasn't even worried about the sleeping situation. He wouldn't be that bold so soon.

"You're just a big ol tease aren't you McDoanald."

"Quite possibly."

I grinned as she headed o the elevator, nice and quite on the ride down.

"I'm sure she'll make it to the airport." I patted the hood of my truck lovingly.

"She's been with me for a long time."

I headed towards the airport the music set low, watching her out of the corner of my eye. There was just something about her quite beauty that always enthralled me, since seeing her in Caritas.

I grinned at him and scooted over, resting my head on his shoulder and enjoying the music. "So you keep your girls for a long time then. Guess I should feel relieved..."

I sat up and smiled at him. "Thanks." He looked confused. "I really n-needed to be gone this weekend...i-it never gets easier." I glanced down and sighed and looked out the window, murmuring the words to Delia's Gone by Johnny Cash that just came on the radio.

Yes, this weekend would be nice and quiet, just a vacation away from everything. I smiled when I saw us pull into the airport terminal. "Umm...do we have a long flight?" Flying and me never became friends, but I didn't want to disappoint him or spoil this. He went to a lot of trouble. I'm sure I'll be ok.

"So you keep your girls for a long time then. Guess I should feel relieved..."

I grinned but didn't answer. Truthfully I'd been dubbed a ladies man throughout a lot of my college life, and afterwards. The short affair with Eve not withstanding.

But with things I cared about, I kept and was careful.

"Thanks. I really n-needed to be gone this weekend...i-it never gets easier."

"I can't imagine." I wish I'd had something better to say, but anything I could think of not cliche'd but I thought better of it.

"Umm...do we have a long flight?"

I shook my head.

"It shouldn't be too long. You'll be comfortable, it's not booked and first class is pretty nice."

"I still can't believe it's five years..." I murmured as we pulled in. Felt like yesterday at times. Felt like it today.

I turned to him when he talked about the flight. "F-first class?" Now he was either really thoughtful, really rich and trying to buy me or trying to show off. I hoped it was the first. I didn't think I could handle if it was any of the other.

I hopped out of the truck and managed to get the door closed with my hip before reaching into the back for my two bags. I grin and look up at him. "Ok, where too boss?"

"I still can't believe it's five years..."

"Time is a strange thing."

"F-first class?"

"Yeah I wanted you to be comfortable. I normally only fly first class when the firm books flights for me. But this is special, and it's not booked."

I pulled into the long term parking garage and rushed to grab her larger bag before she could reach it.

"Ok, where too boss?"

I smiled and lead her towards the ticket counter.

"McDonald and McLay. Destination, Reno, Nevada. Can you check on the car I rented as well please."

The woman smiled at me and nodded.

I gave him a look when he took my bag but didn't say anything. It just gave me a free hand to hold onto his shirt as we walked.

"McDonald and McLay. Destination, Reno, Nevada. Can you check on the car I rented as well please."

I coughed and swallowed my gum, looking up at him. "Y-you're taking me to Reno?" I arched my brow at him. "Are you planning on something that I should be informed about Lindsey?"

I put down my bag and pulled my hair up, waiting for an answer.

I laughed.

"Tahoe actually, well it's not right in Tahoe, but it's close. Flying into Reno is just easier. We're going to Diamond Peak, it's a ski resort. It's in Incline Village."

I handed the woman our bags to check, she returned our id's and gave me a knowing wink. I almost took offense, but shrugged it off. I didn't plan this trip to seduce Tara, not that I didn't want to seduce her, but it was more than that. Tara was more than that.

She made all the trappings of my world disappear. I could forget about Lilah, Angel, Darla, all of it and just be Mac from Oklahoma.

"I'm planning on Skiing if you want, though if not I'm sure we can spend time talking by the fire."

I smiled and took her hand after taking our tickets, I lead her towards the gates. We had about 15 minutes till they started to board first class.

I sighed but ended up looking down as I blushed, digging the toe of my shoe into the floor. "Oh..." I coughed and out of the corner of my eye I saw the woman wink.

That made me pause, did she know something I didn't? Was he planning on something more happening? I mean yes, we've gotten closer and all that and the idea had crossed my mind...a few times. But I didn't know if I was planning on that. Anytime soon at that.

I sighed and shook it off, taking his hand. "Well I've never been skiing. Couldn't hurt to try...right." I giggled. "Ok, well it could hurt..." I leaned up and kissed his cheek. "But sitting in front of a fire does sound awfully nice..." I grinned and rested my head on his shoulder. "Talking is good too, we usually start talking and then things happen..." I giggled and gave his hand a light squeeze. "It'll be a perfect quiet weekend.

"It'll be a perfect quiet weekend."

I hoped so.

"I'm sure we'll make it memorable in some way or another. Though I can't imagine how time with you could ever be forgotten."

I cringed inside at the cheesiness of my words. It sounded like such a line. But I'd actually meant it.

"Forget I said that. I meant it, but it sounded ..." I just trailed off and sighed to myself.

More quickly than I'd expected they called first class passengers to be seated so we boared the plane.

Once we were comfortably seated I turned to her.

"I'm not as suave and slick as I pretend to be, I'm sure you've noticed. I'm just a country boy in a nice suit."
