On the cab ride home after leaving Lindsey’s office I was fuming. I can’t remember the last time I was so angry. Wait, yes I can. When I confronted Willow about that memory spell she used. That night didn't turn out so great either.
Just because he was some hotshot lawyer didn't give him the right to act it and to treat me like a was some prize or something that needed to be conqored. I wasn't a trophy. I was a person. I am a person, with feelings and emotions. Just because he didn't show them didn't mean that nobody else had them.
I bit my lip and winced, my lips and arms were sore from when he grabbed me, I had to check in the mirror to make sure I wasn't bleeding from his roughness. The way he grabbed me and kissed me not only angered me but I couldn't help but feel a bit...I'm not sure exactly, but I didn't like how it made me feel.
I headed back to my hotel room and quickly rid myself of my clothes right as I closed the door, they smelled like him and his aftershave, I quickly headed to the shower. I got under the hot water and started to wash my hair and then my body. I had to stop when I noticed I was scrubbing my arms so much that the skin was red.
I sighed and leaned against the cool wall. I didn’t understand what was going on, this man irritated me to no end, yet I couldn’t get him off my mind. Nor out from under my skin. He was imbedded there and just refused to come out.
This only further proved my theory that he was a rattlesnake.
I finished up in the shower and got out, pulling on a robe I went over to the bed and sat down. As I brushed my hair I looked around the room and just shook my head. So this is what my life’s come too? I run away from the few friends that I love enough to call family and I run to LA to hide in some hotel room, that’s seen much better days, with no real direction.
“I need a change.” I sighed and ran my fingers through my wet hair, my eyes fell upon the card that Lindsey had given me when he had taken me out to dinner - well forced me to go out with him. I picked it up and read it.
Scooting back on the bed I picked up the phone and dialed. What else did I have left to lose. “Hello? Hi yes a umm friend of mine gave me your card. He told me you could help me find an apartment. He said to say that Mac sent me…yes, yes I do. Tuesday? That would be wonderful, thank you very much.”
I was brushing out my hair when I heard a knock at the door. “One second please.” I put down my brush and headed over to the door. “Hello?”
“Hi, I’m George. We spoke on the phone the other day…”
I smile slightly and pull the door open for him. “Hi, it’s very nice to meet you.”
I was so glad that I had called George, even if he was a friend of Lindsey’s, the places he showed me were so beautiful. Best part, I could afford them. George explained to me that if I could pay six months ahead of time the rent would be a lot cheaper. Thankfully I had some money that mamma left me when she died so I was able to do that with whatever apartment I decided to take.
The last place that George showed me was it. “This place is beautiful.” I turned and looked at him, crossing my arms over my chest. “What’s w-wrong with it?”
“Nothing, honest. This place is on the up and up. The past owner left town in a hurry so the owner is in a rush to get someone to fill the lease up.”
I arched my brow at him. Ahh, so that was it. “How long is the lease for?” They wanted someone to finish the lease.
“Sixteen months.”
I sighed and looked around the place, taking it in and trying to decide. This would be a good thing for me, I'd start fresh, nobody knew me here and I'd be able to be myself and not feel like I need to stay in the box everyone puts me in. Most of all I'll be far away from Lindsey, he'd never know where I was or where I moved to. Major bonus points there.
I walked over to the balcony and the view. “I’ll take it.” I turned to George. “Where do I sign and who do I write the check out to?”
Twenty minutes later I had signed the lease and given George the check and everything was set. “I need to stop in and see someone before I leave if that’s ok with you, then I’ll drive you back to the hotel.” I nodded and followed him down the hall, it wasn’t far, only two doors.
I leaned up against the other side of the wall, my arms over my chest, looking down the far hall as I waited for him to do his thing. I wanted to hurry and get back to the hotel so I could pack the few things I had and start on starting new.
I heard the door open and my heart stopped when I heard a voice. Not any voice. His voice. I turned slowly and looked at him. “This can’t be happening…”
