Swap X

It's been a long December...such an appropriate song. While this particular song doesn't make an appearance on my mix for this 10th year, it is quite apropose to the emotions that have been running rampant through my head. I know Ghost gave instruction to choose music that represents us now, but there are so many awesome songs that meant so much to me that I attach to a memory which has helped mold me into the person I am today. Putting this mix together was therapeutic. I went through my previous mixes that I'd sent to my swap mates, and thought to myself how much our lives have changed in these past 10 years; relationship changes, deaths of family/friends, births, and in some cases rebirths. So, I chose to select some of those songs for this year's swap. Here are my songs for this year:

1.       To My Surprise- In the Mood
This is the first song from the first CD swap, and seemed appropriate to kick things off.
2.       Rage Against the Machine- Renegades of Funk
One of my favorite memories associated with this song is driving around with SisterSolstice and rocking out…well, as best we could in my car.
3.       Sevendust-Black
The opening lyrics to this song “They say I’m different, well I’m not the same…” speak volumes about each of us. We are different and I love the eclectic mixes I receive each year. I know that’s not what the song is referring to, but it works for many situations.
4.        Nine Inch Nails with David Bowie-I’m Afraid of Americans
With all of the social media frenzy and other “news” outlets (i.e. TMZ) becoming more prevalent over the past 10 years, America and the World is definitely changing.
5.       Passion Pit-Sleepy Head
I believe it was Ghost and Alicia who introduced me to the awesomeness of Passion Pit. This song in particular has been a favorite of my families from the time we first heard it.
6.       No Doubt- Hella Good
I do feel Hella Good and I will keep on dancing.
7.       Audio Slave-Doesn’t Remind Me
Memories. This is what this song brings to my mind.
8.       Butthole Surfers-Pepper
Many moons ago, Shenry brought up the Butthole Surfers in a post and that year I made sure to include it on my mix. Since I was going down memory lane, I decided to add it again.
9.       Echo and the Bunnymen-Lips Like Sugar
This song reminds me of long trips with  my folks. Many of you know how much of an influence my parents musical taste has influenced mine and I wanted to pay homage to them.
10.   T’Pau-Heart and Soul
"Some how, I lost my way looking to see something in your eyes."
11.   The Cure-Pictures of You
Heartache through ending relationships and for some through death over the years. This song resonates with me and the feeling of memories both happy and sad.
12.   Madonna-Rain
"Rain, wash away my sorrow, take away my pain."
13.   Big Head Todd and The Monsters-Broken Hearted Savior
My apologies for the typo on the CD sleeve...it is supposed to be Todd not Toad.
14.   Alison Krauss-The Lucky One
I've seen Alison Krauss in concert twice and each time her voice amazes me. This song is one of her more recognized hits. "Well you're blessed I guess for never knowin' which road your choosin'. To you the next best thing to playing and winning is playing and losing."
15.   Lyle Lovett-She’s Already Made Up Her Mind
Lyle Lovett has a way with words that just makes my heart melt.
16.   Jeff Buckley-Grace
This song appeared on "The Path" mix that everyone put together back in 2008. The song makes me teary eyed for reasons I can't quite put into words..
17.   Talking Heads-Road to Nowhere
We are indeed on the Road to Nowhere and I am thoroughly enjoying the ride with each of you.
