Anyone here speak German?

Thanks to a perceived need to increase my A levels for the teaching course I Didn't take and the the queen of all guilt-trips, I am now apparently to do a German AS-level on Wednesday evenings, starting at a job-restricting 6pm. I haven't studied a word of German since 1987 and only kept up with the language at all through re-watchings of Der Himmel Uber Berlin. I don't even know how to make umlauts on the keyboard. Maybe the best way to catch up woiuld be to read HP shipper rows on German fanboards, as I know what they'll be saying already :D

This will go well with my PhD, which will start in January, despite having saved only £1 out of the £600 needed and not actually being accepted yet. The acceptance should be a formality, as it wouldn't say much for their MA programme otherwise. It's terribly lazy to stay with one institution but I do love the town dearly. I even swore I'd go to a few LCCC matches next year. I will redo my research proposal at the weekend and somehow get up the nerve to approach my betatutor; a person I ignored while writing my rubbish dissertation and who probably now hates me. Ack.

I am currently looking up Cheshire folk customs for my longterm never-to-be-spoken project, and because my library book needs taking back. This puts off my HP research, even though I am doing a few bits in my head during the adverts of the excellent C4 rap documentaries. I had to tape "Lost" again because, like "Smallville" I am way behind and can't watch out of turn even if it's right in front of me. I need to find work in a department store, I've decided. It has a very 1930s ring to it, especially if I wear a black velvet frock with washable cuffs.

work, study
