What Saturday?

(warning, DWfen, this is a Long Stream of Whiiiine. What do I have in my cornflakes? Whine)

The terrible thing is that I just don't care about 'Doctor Who'. No, that's not it... I know I'll watch it and I'll just sneer all the way through. I've not turned into one of those anti-SF snobs, or even anti-fluff snobs, but... I can't see how it isn't going to be rubbish. It's not anything to do with Rose either - I like a big cast, even if they're arranged linearly :D I've always been a bit dubious about the teenyweeny cast (cos I love big shambling ensemble shows) and the arsehole of a hero (even Nine, even Five; all tossers in a way - the show is only good for me when it acknowledges this).

It's not the BBC/Wales/teatime milieu - I'm quite looking forward to the next 'Torchwood' despite all the bad sex and Chewits monsters and you know how much I liked Robin Hood. I like all sorts of fluff and cheese... Is it the hype? You know, the tabloid spoilers, the guest stars, the endless fawning reviews? Am I that indie? Is it the ghost of OG and the way I felt almost bullied for the whole TGIF crapfest? Is it the fact that I love Daleks and dalek stories and yet think it's sickening that they're using the poor buggers as ratings meat again? Or is it that this is the second year of Ten? I know what Ten is and what Ten does and I know what I thought he'd be and I don't like being reminded every week of how wrong I was. He's bloody awful is what he is.

I love their world. I love most SF worlds, really. I just love space and time travel and shiny robots. I love robots pathetically. I love the space-and-related-etcship and the Plucky Assistant and this year's Mickey (when he turns up) and Jack and... you know, something else, I've stopped hoping they'll go into Space often enough for me. Yep, ever was thus, but then as a kid I preferred 'Blake's Seven'. Hell, I preferred 'Red Dwarf' (until they started listening to their fans) I saw the BSG finale yesterday (quick thought: blOOOblupblup ZONNNGfoopbawee) and I'm going to watch all of 'Firefly' soon, so maybe this just isn't my genre, it's the one next door that looks a bit like it. Although so is 'Smallville' and I'm about to watch more of that. I wish daleks could invade somewhere else.

Or maybe I was right the third time and it's all the BLOODY USELESS SHOUTING and vomit-inducingly cheesy historicals and lessons about faaaamily I can't hack. So, maybe I'll avoid spreading my cheerful ooze and just wait till the dalek episode. Still, I liked at least four episodes last year (the werewolf, the two-parter set in spaaaace, um didn't mind the Other Perspective one everyone hated and the dalek/cybermen bitchfest was sweet. Oh, and the shooty dog thing. See, I'm being way too harsh)
