bad time for sport

I was up quite late last night following the Bob Woolmer story on the news, waiting to see if it made any sense. It's so awful to think of some poor sporting man who'd just lost a couple of matches being murdered horribly. There's such a difference between thinking "oh well, the stress gave him a heart attack" and this. It makes it seem a bit off to continue with the competition, although stopping it would really mess with a lot of the islands' economies. He scored a Test century against Lillee once.

Also all the talk of match-fixing is bad for another reason - it seems to put a shadow on any match of anything where the smaller team wins. I heard the Ireland/Pakistan match live on the radio and it made sense to me - a one-off result between an erratic high-ranking team and an up-and-coming lower team full of Australian ringers. Now am I supposed to think that all such matches are fake?
