A/N: Oh God, I saw
this adorable prompt on the
exopromptmeme and had to attempt a fill. Cheesy pick up lines and ChanSoo? Yes please. Dear OP, I apologize if this wasn’t everything you imagined though. I only realized after finishing this that you asked for the pick up lines to make Kyungsoo run. Whoops. I hope someone else fills your prompt too then and actually remembers that part. My bad. OTL ;;;;;;;
“Dude, could you be any more obvious?” Baekhyun rolled his eyes as he watched his best friend exchange yet another shy glance with the raven-haired boy behind the Baskin Robbins counter.
Chanyeol quickly shook his head before averting his eyes back to the brunette sitting in front of him. “Wh-wh-what are you talking about?” he stammered out in a rush.
The smaller boy’s lips curled upwards into a smile as he gracefully gestured towards the male working behind the counter. “You’ve got the hots for the ice cream boy, obviously.”
Chanyeol’s large eyes nearly bugged out of their sockets. “Don’t say it like that, you make it sound so crude!”
“Trust me, I could be more crude. Park Chanyeol wants the ice cream boy’s d--”
The taller male quickly let out a yelp before jumping out of his seat to clamp a large hand over his friend’s mouth. “OKAY, okay. Stop, please.” Chanyeol sighed before slumping back into his seat across his friend. “So I kind of have a small crush on Kyungsoo. Big whoop.”
“‘Kyungsoo’? You even know his name?”
“H-He wears a nametag, you know!” Chanyeol sputtered as he watched Baekhyun wiggle his eyebrows as if to insinuate something. Which he probably was, Chanyeol realized with a slight pout. “Anyway, I just kind of really like his eyes. And cheeks. And smile. And...” The taller male’s voice trailed off as he watched Baekhyun continue to wiggle his brows.
“‘It’s just a crush,’ my ass, Yeollie. You’ve been here almost every day for the past month. Even during midterms!” Baekhyun snorted before allowing a smirk to spread across his lips. “You should hit on him. Be upfront about these inner desires of yours. Everyone likes a boyfriend who can be bold.”
Chanyeol tilted his head to the side and watched from his peripheral vision as his dream boy smiled at a gathering of teenage girls at the counter. He frowned slightly before returning his attention to his companion. “And what do you suggest?”
------
The next day, Park Chanyeol returned to Baskin Robbins after his last class of the day in hopes of wooing his ice cream boy. He confidently strode into the establishment until he met eyes with Kyungsoo from across the store. That’s when his will crumbled, and he found himself doing nothing more than exchanging shy glances again from across the room.
“Come on, Chanyeol! You can do it!” Chanyeol huffed as he looked down at hastily scrawled words on the back of yesterday’s banana split receipt. The day before, Baekhyun had fed him some pick up lines that he guaranteed would make any girl or guy swoon. Worried about forgetting the sentences in his nervousness, Chanyeol had copied them down before stuffing the receipt in his pants pocket. In all honesty, Chanyeol questioned the wording of some of the pick up lines, but who was he to complain when an English major was helping him? Surely that added some legitimacy to Baekhyun’s claims, right?
Taking in a couple deep breaths, Chanyeol extracted himself from his seat near the door and proceeded to make his way up to his target. When he arrived, his ice cream boy was as adorable as ever -- all smiles in his pristine, white work uniform. If Chanyeol didn’t know any better, he would think an angel had descended onto Earth in the form of Kyungsoo. “Hello,” Kyungsoo greeted in a soft voice. “Welcome to Baskin Robbins. What can I get for you today?”
Making a big show of it, Chanyeol craned his neck to look at the other boy’s name tag. “So, Kyungsoo, is it?”
“Hmm?” Chanyeol’s heartbeat quickened as the other boy looked on curiously, a delicate smile gracing his features. “Yes?”
“Did the sun come out or did you just smile at me?” Chanyeol asked with what he hoped was the most attractive grin ever on his face. “Boy, you better direct all that beauty somewhere else or you’ll melt all the ice cream.”
Kyungsoo blinked a couple times, smile never leaving his face. “Um, pardon?”
“Oh, excuse me.” Chanyeol felt his left eye twitch during his wink attempt before moving his own face closer to the other male’s. “I think you have something in your eye. Nevermind, it’s just a sparkle.”
There was a pause in the one-sided conversation until Kyungsoo suddenly put his head down on the counter.
“Um, was it something I said?”
The ice cream boy’s shoulders started shaking, which alarmed Chanyeol quite a bit.
“Uh, are you okay? Oh God, did I make you cry?”
More shaking.
“Oh man, are my lines just that good?”
Suddenly, Kyungsoo let out a bark of laughter as he stood up straight. Clutching his stomach, he pretended to wipe a tear in his eye before clapping his hands as his laughter faded. “Ahaha, you could put it that way, I guess.” Grinning, Kyungsoo readjusted his white cap before holding out his hand. “I never did catch your name, even though you’ve definitely come in here more than once.”
“Park Chanyeol,” Chanyeol mumbled, a flush beginning to creep up his face as he realized this meant that Kyungsoo had noticed him -- maybe even just as much as he had been taking notice of Kyungsoo. Tentatively, he shook the other’s hand. “And oh, your hands are really warm. Which reminds me, if you were a transformer, I think you’d be a Hot-obot, and your name would be Optimus Fine. Tsss.”
Kyungsoo let out another bark of laughter as they stopped shaking hands (too soon, in Chanyeol’s opinion). “Where do you get this stuff?”
Chanyeol thought back to the receipt stowed away in his left pocket. “Oh you know, er, I’m just that cool. Like your ice cream, which you might melt, ‘cause -- you know -- you’re Optimus Fine. Tssssss.”
Kyungsoo laughed again before a bell rang from the front door, indicating the entrance of another customer. “Speaking of which, I have work.”
“Right, right.” The taller male nodded carefully. “Ah, I’m sorry to disturb you --”
“But I’m off the clock at 8PM.” Kyungsoo smiled before looking down at the counter separating the two of them. “Maybe we could get dinner then? If you’re not busy. I’d like to hear more of your cool one-liners.”
Chanyeol felt his entire face heat up before he shook his head fervently. “Oh, um, yeah! Of course! Dinner! That would be great! Fantastic even! I’m not busy! Not at all!”
“Alright then,” the other boy began. “I’ll see you later, Chanyeol.”
“See you later,” Chanyeol echoed as he turned around to leave, ears barely hearing how Kyungsoo was muttering something about sparkling eyes and Hot-obots.
------
In Chanyeol’s mind, his dinner date with Kyungsoo had turned out exceptionally well (even after Chanyeol had admitted that the lines hadn’t stemmed from his own cool thoughts, but actually from his more articulate friend). I mean, it had to have been a good time if Kyungsoo had spent most of it laughing, right?
As he walked Kyungsoo back to his dorm (“You really don’t have too, Chanyeol --” “It’s okay, you’re near my dorm, I swear.” “Your dorm is located on the other side of campus though, Chanyeol.” “Um, I can explain?”), Chanyeol stopped a little ways away from their destination to pull at the other male’s sweater.
“Hm? What is it?” Kyungsoo attempted to turn around as Chanyeol tugged slightly on the tag that had been resting against the back of the smaller boy’s neck.
“Yep, I was right!” Chanyeol rubbed his nose. “It says ‘Made in Heaven.’”
Kyungsoo blinked blankly before playfully shoving at the taller male. “These lines are A+ material, I swear.”
“Well, what if I said something like, um...” Chanyeol’s voice trailed off as he quickly turned around to subtly read his receipt of lines.
“Something like what?” A small smile appeared on Kyungsoo’s face as he moved himself to reappear in front of the taller male.
“I-I’ve got Skittles in my mouth.” Chanyeol stuttered as he avoided looking at Kyungsoo. “W-Want to taste the rainbow?”
“Well now, if you said something like that, I’d have to say two things.” Kyungsoo looked thoughtful for a few seconds before suddenly pulling the taller male’s collar, bringing Chanyeol’s face inches away from his. “One, this Baekhyun kid really does know some odd pick up lines.” Kyungsoo whispered, still smiling. “And two, I wouldn’t really mind tasting the rainbow.” With that said, Kyungsoo swiftly captured Chanyeol’s lips with his own.
(And after that, needless to say, Chanyeol would never be able to look at Skittles the same way again.)
And, bonus drabble of how he can’t look at Skittles the same way ever again:
Chanyeol kept his head down as he entered his shared dorm room with Wu Yifan. “Ah, Chanyeol, a friend of mine stopped by earlier with some of her White Day candy. Want some?”
Chanyeol yelped as he noticed a familiar red bag resting on his roommate’s desk. He stammered out a quick refusal before diving onto his roommate’s bed (too lazy to dive onto his own lofted one).
“Wait a minute, why are you burying your face in my pillow? Chanyeol?” Yifan finally stopped pestering the other when the younger male suddenly lifted his face up. With a snort, Yifan turned around to continue doing work on his laptop. “Hm, nevermind. Your red ears say it all, Chanyeol.”
Muffling a groan with a pillow, Chanyeol rolled around on the bed with closed eyes as he remembered soft, pink lips and candy-oriented pick up lines. “Oh, shut up, hyung.”
