Running!

Today I ran 3 miles without the binder!  My first run without it, and oh, I didn't realize how much it was messing with my breathing until I ran without it.  The run was a lot easier than last time I ran the same route, about a month ago.  I think I'll be able to start increasing my distance... I miss those long runs!  40 minutes is nice, but there's nothing more satisfying than running for as long as I can...  And I definitely miss the post long run meal.  No guilt about calories, at all.

Still same weight I was on day of surgery (180).  Amazed I haven't gained during the stressful writing process... I find that eating snacky things really helps me not grind my teeth.  I need to remember to bring a supply of gum in to the lab so I can chew that instead.  Or work at home, because for some reason working at home does not give me the munchies!

In other news, I volunteered at the Boston Marathon yesterday, and wow, it was amazing.  I'd never watched it in person before, and seeing how fast elite runners run, even at mile 22 of a marathon, just wow.  Handing out water to thousands of people was not dull for a minute.  Everyone ran for their own reason, and you could see it in what they wore, who they ran with, and written in emotions on their face.  People were in pain, but also joy, and the good seemed to outweigh the bad in most cases.  It was very moving that so many of the runners thanked us for volunteering.  In my mind, volunteering is an honor... it was so great to be out there!  I hope that maybe someday I'll be running a marathon.  Not today, not tomorrow...

My friends who ran did amazingly, and are recovering well from the experience.  ;)
