Permission to write.

It's a big thing.  A thesis.  I have to write one, and it has to be written pretty soon.  Outlines, plans, words, many words.  It is that time when a PhD candidate steps up, makes their work their own, and takes their place in the field.  A rite of passage.

July comes quickly.  In August I'll be heading back to med school.

In all of this, running helps keep things together.  When I'm feeling too overwhelmed, too stressed, I just need to go for a run and I feel a lot better.  I guess I'm a runner.  =)

I'm also trying to keep some kind of social life, because I can't work all the time.  Yet.  My definitions of hard work keep changing... as I find more hours that I can spend in the lab not because I have to be there, but because I want to be there.  Because I want to see how these experiments will turn out, because I want to write well.

On the surgery front, I get to meet with my surgeon tomorrow.  I want to ask him about...
-The bulge on my upper abdomen.  Is it skin or fat or swelling?
-The looseness of skin when I bend forward
-Incision is itchy, especially on the sides
-Are there dog ears to the sides?
-What else can be done about the fact that I don't have a waist?  My pants have to dig in at the waist to stay up, and that pushes the skin/fat on my upper abs into an uncomfortable muffin top.
