Harumph. Today be my last day in the RC for three months and it seems slightly surreal. Mayhap it hasn't hit me yet that tomorrow I'm going to get up at 5am and drive 9 hours to a part of the country I've never been to before. Even the whole packing thing hasn't made it hit me yet.
I know I've been here two weeks, and in one way it feels like ages and I'm ready to get started on this new adventure. But, on the other hand, the fact that this is my first summer away from home, and I'm going to be leaving my small circle of friends in Rapid behind, whom will continue to have uproarious or completely mundane adventures at my normal place of summer work, kind of bums me out. Last night I hung out with Casey, David, and one half of the collective Jon, because somebody who goes by the name of Ringo decided to leave two days ago....grrr. I watched them mow down a plethora of people in video game combat, then attempted to participate in said combat myself, but with only an average success rate. Then we got in touch with our elementary side and engaged in serious swinging and monkey bars handling at the nearest elementary school. It's hanging-out occurences like the aforementioned that I'm going to miss. Not once will I be able to swim in Sheridan or Pactola, or hike up Harney, or partake in a midnight movie, or listen with a placid look on my face while some idiot complains about the lack of salt in their popcorn.
I'm sure I will have a swinging time down in the N of M, but the fact that it's different and new and I still have no exact idea of what I'll be doing seeing as how USD has yet to forward my mail to me, gives me slight pause. I'm a creature of habit, what can I say. And driving nine hours to a place I haven't seen yet to do something I don't have all the necessary info on yet, gives me a slight case of ants in the pants.
Bottom line: I'm really going to miss my friends here, and I'm slightly nervous about the future. Nervous in a good way, though.
And as absolutely lame and twitter-pated as it sounds, I'm sure that as soon as I catch up with Scott down there I'll be on Cloud 9 about this whole damn enterprise.
For the time being, I'm over and out. I will try to keep the random tidbits coming, but I'm not sure how often that will be.
You stay classy, Rapid City.
