He would let her get away with murder if he wanted to, Hermione mused angrily to herself as the tip of her quill bit into the parchment she was currently grading.
Regaining all the self-control she could muster, she quietly set the quill aside and stared directly into the black eyes of the student sitting before her. She noticed the slight lift of her delicate, narrow chin and the smug smile crinkling at the corners of her thin mouth.
Jaws clenched and eyes narrowed, Hermione quietly stood up and advanced toward the unflinching girl, the classroom silent as they watched.
-----
For a moment, Hermione thought she had seen a flicker of surprise in the girl’s eyes. However, it vanished as soon as it had come and it was, yet again, replaced by its usual haughty exterior.
“Is there anything you wish to inform me, girl?” Hermione asked quietly.
“Why, of course not…Mother,” the girl replied sincerely, her dark brows raised in clear astonishment.
Hermione could feel her face grow warm as her daughter deliberately avoided using her appropriate title. The young girl’s feigned look of mild innocence had always annoyed her and, much to her chagrin, Eva Snape knew it.
------
Hermione knew her husband always doted on their daughter, relishing in her innocent schemes, and allowing her to run free in the castle as a young tot. He spoiled her and supported her ploys of destruction. In fact, he encouraged it.
And yet…she wanted nothing more than to be a role model for her daughter. She never once dreamed of her hitting her child as punishment, but there have been occasions in which she had no choice but to give her daughter her rightful reprimand.
However, Severus seemed to have caught wind of this and always came to Eva’s rescue.

Still, this was the very first week of classes and Hermione was extremely disappointed to see her own offspring performing such callous acts to another classmate. It reminded her of Malfoy and his treatment to the late Harry Potter.
“I see that you have no plans in admitting your wrongdoing, Ms. Snape. So, I’m afraid I must take 50 points from Slytherin.”
Eva’s shoulder twitched slightly at the news, but she smiled sweetly nonetheless. “Well, I suppose we’ll just have to see about that.”
She was indeed her father’s daughter.
“Yes,” Hermione replied, her jaw set determinedly. “We’ll just see.”
