The first cup happens within five minutes of waking. Hermione has learned to be grateful for elfish intrusion at an ungodly hour, if it means that Severus' nose is graced by the smell of coffee before his eyes are open. It is black, sweet, and strong. She never voices the words “like him”, just thinks them.
The second two cups are over breakfast. Large mugs, half-and half strong coffee and hot milk. Mid-way down the first, he begins to be capable of human interaction. That's when she gets her first smile of the day. She loves that rich Italian roast.

Morning break. A hurried drink of tepid black from the staffroom urn. He grimaces, but needs must. It's Hermione who makes sure the others leave enough for him.
He tries to fit a sneaky espresso in between lessons. She once read that Balzac couldn't write unless he was shaking with caffeine; Severus can't teach unless his veins are running with black sludge.
Come evening he's still at it. Research, lesson planning, homework... Always with a fragrant cup steaming at his elbow.
She herself doesn't drink coffee. But she has come to love it, because Severus Snape cannot function without it.
