Hermione stepped carefully over the crates, brandishing the packing list. "Severus? Why did you order fifty-seven litres of premium red ink?"
The man in question emerged from his office, frowning. "Fifty-seven? The fall order should be sixty."
She blanched. "That much?"
His lips curved. "A minimum only. The years your lot was in school, I went through four times as much."
"Oh, my," she replied faintly, fanning herself with the list.
"Why does the expense trouble you?"
"Because," she wailed. "I just ordered parchment!"
"Write your thesis smaller, then," he advised dryly, disappearing into the lab with a satisfied flourish.
