Severus took another sip of brandy, moving it gently around his mouth before swallowing. If he had to endure this nightmare gathering he’d damn well make use of the liquor available.
He loved his wife with every cell of his good-for-nothing body. Why Hermione stayed with him was a mystery, even after twenty-five happy years together.
He watched as their daughter took to the dance floor with Albus Potter.
“You’ll always be her first love, Severus,” Hermione whispered.
“Hmm, how much longer do we need to stay?”
“Such a curmudgeon, and not even a hundred yet.”
“Your curmudgeon, love.”
“Always.”
