The room is darker than he remembers and the air is thick with the smell of rotting flesh and spilt blood. He runs his tongue across his lower lip and recoils when he brushes against an open wound.
Blindly he fumbles in the dark, tripping over first one and then another fallen soldier.
He has to find her. Needs to wrap his arms around her, feel her lips against his, pull her body close to him.
He stumbles again, cursing.
Hermione comes to see Severus daily; she’s living in a nightmare.
The war is over but they are still parted.
