Lying still in the snow, Hermione tried to get a grasp of the situation.
She heard Death Eaters congratulate each other and realised that her friends were dead.
Still, she lay motionless, pretending death, clinging to a small, stubborn warmth of hope.
But the killing wasn´t over. Excited Death Eaters played with prisoners. Someone yelled:
”Who wants to go next?”
They laughed, moved, and she caught sight of their latest victim; bleeding and broken, his raven hair spread across the snow and his beloved features frozen in a pained expression.
Without hesitation, she lunged forward, screaming:
”Me! Please, pick me!”
