yay books!
so i'm really happy about today! first, i got a surprise package from my grandma that was labeled "can be opened before chanukkah" so we opened it. inside was an awesome menorah (and it looks practically indestructable, so that's good), two chocolate frogs, and a copy of the tales of beedle the bard! she's so thoughtful! i called to thank her and she was surprised it arrived already but that started my day off well.
next, my birthday present from travis arrived! he had bought me the collector's edition of beedle the bard when it was announced (in july?) and said i'd just have to wait for it to show up. and it did! it came in a HUGE leather bound faux book with print copies of the illustrations by jkr and then the book itself has the handwritten introduction by jkr, but the rest of the book is the same. it's simply gorgeous, and i'm so glad that it finally came. now, i can keep my collector's edition in mint condition and read the other copy! i'm not sure how i feel about the "commentary" by dumbledore (it's kind of like reading an essay after every chapter, elaborating on what you just read) but the stories are interesting. i'm also not thrilled that jkr refers you to magical beasts and where to find them in the footnotes instead of just saying what she's talking about. my copies of the other books are still at my mom's house and frankly, i'm too lazy to look it up anyway. i suppose i just don't understand why you need to have a footnote if it's just going to say, "buy my other book." *shrugs*
still angry about food, but less angsty about it today. i got to eat a chocolate frog as one of my snacks and i blew my dinner sugars by having half of a brownie sundae with my mom at fridays. i probably shouldn't have eaten as much as i did (since my sugars were WELL above what they should be) but it was yummy, so i have no regrets. one splurge isn't going to make my babies hypoglycemic at birth.
now i'm off to eat... again. joy.
