And so I will write something for the first instance in some time.
Right, well, I'm back in school, and compared to last semester, the only real difference is that I'm probably sleeping at better hours (although I did not go to sleep last night until 6 AM, which is new and I hope will just prove to be an anomaly).
Now, as for classes. I suppose that is different too. I can't say I've really gotten into the swing of things, but then again, classes are only starting to pick up.
Right then, 4 classes this semester:
Multi-variable calculus
Physics 102 Honors
Discrete Structures (computer science course which is more or less about the mathematics of algorithms.)
Potomac Fever (Freshman seminar about the history of the Potomac region)
Well, multi-variable calculus is fine, the teacher is decent, etc. etc. The problem sets for multivar aren't collected, which may prove a problem since then I might not do them (I'm already behind), and that would be bad, but I'm sure I'll manage.
I'm not sure whether I love or hate discrete structures yet. It seems like an interesting course, although it feels as though the professor is glossing over some material or assuming we are more familiar with stuff that we've only had the vaguest exposure to. Most of the syntax I'm going to have to pick up as I go along.
I can tell Potomac Fever is going to be my least favorite course, as the professor is making the course up as she goes (she's never taught a freshman seminar before), which is always a bad sign. I hate courses without a set plan, generally: they're too disorganized and feel pointless at the end. But I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
Incidentally, my homework due tomorrow for Potomac Fever is to write a memoir about a specific life episode. This is a history course, and I'm writing a memoir. She says this needs to be done to get a sense of everyone's writing (as nearly all of the freshman seminars are writing courses), yet I suspect the ulterior motive of the homework is to bide time to plan for the course. *sigh* I'm probably being too paranoid about this course, but I really don't have high hopes. Again, I'll just have to wait and see.
And as for Honors Physics, I'm greatly enjoying myself. Much better than last semester I think, as it's more challenging and I'll actually feel motivated to work. Furthermore, the professor sticks some interesting anecdotes into each lecture. That being said, the homework is truly difficult, and I'll probably spend quite a bit of time mulling over some of the questions. But it will keep me thinking, at least, and I can't complain about that.
That said, I'll probably whine about lab reports every week. I mean, I probably won't bother posting on my LJ every week about how terrible the lab report is (particularly because I seem to be using LJ less and less), but you can be certain I won't be happy on Tuesday nights as I write them. I just hate lab reports.
