a slight tingle
Paris: Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton
Spring 2015 Menswear
Yet another throwback collection, but this one is mixing it up from late sixties to mid-eighties.
Lots of high-waisted pants here, and jumpsuits (again!). I don't know what to make of the amounts of suede for a spring/summer collection allegedly rooted in an Indian vibe; suede is simply not something for high-temperature locales (like Texas, even).
There's so much in this collection that's good (jumpsuits notwithstanding), it's just that most of it wouldn't look good on me as is; perhaps with a color tweak here and there I wouldn't look like I was trying too hard.
(An aside: Hello?
MTV 1983? Sorry, I simply cannot.)
Looks that quickly caught my eye…
And let me say that I fell to my knees and wept for the return of
white monochrome. It's almost enough to make me want to live another year. White monochrome for summer fiercely jabs my Tennessee Williams fetish.
(Williams was Southern and into Navy boys, y'know…)
I get that it's very “mod” minimalist obnoxious and makes me look fat; I don't give two shits. It rocks my world.
On this particular set of models, I can't help but notice the effect that the huge flaps above the back pants pockets have on their “asses.” To me, it's very distracting, and not in a good way, which is perhaps a little ironic, given my general “appreciation” for the male derriere. Seriously, though, how many skinny boys out there, gay or straight, want to give the impression of a low, wide ass?
Then there's the
cluster of shirts that, while interesting from a structural standpoint, look as though they should be paired with Swatch watches. On the other hand, the patterend shirts don't piss me off. In fact, they're very pleasant in a summer/casual Friday way, and look especially good paired with solid neutral (wide-ass) pants (even if the pants are little more than upmarket Dockers.)
Naturally, Vuitton has ample and most excellent coat porn, but the styling for this show makes the belted short trenches look more like coatdresses.
For the record, I am still not okay with short trousers.
I probably never will be, either.
