Sometimes it still surprises me how people can miss major connections.

So we have the Aurora shootings.  Gun control is a completely different argument (though it should be noted that the guns the shooter used allegedly were not obtained legally, make of that what you will never mind, the guns were legally obtained over a period of months) and I won’t talk much about it now.

Naturally, people want and/or demand more police protection from situations like this.

Colorado is a Republican state that is very anti-tax, to the extent that Colorado Springs, perhaps the most fiscally and socially conservative among Colorado municipalities, was obliged to make drastic cuts to public services because of sharp decreases in sales tax revenue (which accounts for 53% of the city’s budget), following voter rejection of a proposed property tax increase in 2009.

Police have to be paid, right?  And where does that money come from?

Connections, people.  They have to be made.
