Y'know, I remember Susie Essman from back in the day. You know, that intermediate period that was kind of post-Diane Ford-Paula Poundstone-Elayne Boosler-Rita Rudner for female comedians. I used to get her confused with Cathy Ladman, actually, because they both worked the Jewish thing, though Susie took the more Jewish American Princess tack, where Ladman had a more gruffly neurotic style.
I thought that Essman was amusing, certainly, but I tended to lean towards Ladman’s sets for some indefinable reason, and lately Cathy is a little bit more under-the-radar these days, and I tend to hold Curb Your Enthusiasm against Susie because of my general distaste for all things Larry David.
That said, Essman really came out swinging last night:

I think praying to Susie Essman may be a good alternative these days.
