It's been a week since I've returned. So far the physical pain has subsided and I seem to be doing better.

What does El Salvador has to offer? Under the slew of mass pollution and overbearing heat, not to mention the ongoing opposition of the FMLN (a guerrilla army turned leftist political party), it's not easy to understand why anyone would go there if they have no family connections.
But this country has a more americanized appeal (more so since the colon currency has been converted to US dollars). The commercial centers are replicas of what you'd expect in American and Canadian cities, except a lot greener. El Salvador is modern, it has to be modern for the sake of tourists. But it comes at the expense of the people. Many will bitterly share their dislike of the new currency system that they themselves can't keep up with. An example is that a common worker will be payed $5/h and gas prices are $3/gallon. Take in account the family they must support, the rent they must pay, and the food they must buy. By the way, food is more expensive than clothes there. It's more than enough for people to handle.
My uncle would gripe and pull his hair about not having sold anything for the day while my aunt would say, "Tomorrow's another day."
Yet, somehow people will find a way to manage, either by government funding, education, or other means.

So why do people visit here? The malls and marketplaces are rather nice, and so is the greenery. Anyone who says BC is the greenest will be humbled by the amount of trees and plant life this Republic has to offer. The rain forest has been cut down by %80 but you wouldn't notice it. The people are nice too as you can converse with any stranger; and they're helpful if you've fumbled in any way. Canadians are nice, but they're so not that nice.
The ancient ruins and the beaches are the best this country has to offer. One can spend days in the beach. The businesses there offer a wide arrange of activities, such as horseback riding, not to mention food and drinks. There are better fish there and pupusas (which I'd like to think is my birth country's pride and joy). Just word to the wise, don't drink the water, lest you want to be sick like I was.
Am I starting to sound like Ian Wright?

El Salvador may have its share of problems and, to me, isn't a more likely vacation resort like the Bahamas or Cancun. But my cousin says that they get many tourists so what do I know?
