HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DAVID, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DAVID, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR DAVID...I hope you have a great day for your birthday! Too bad you can't be off to spend it as you wish.
I cut my baby eggplant in halves last night to cook. After David said his were bad, I've been apprehensive about doing so. 3 of mine were bad but 4 were good. With 8 halves, I wound up with about half a teaspoon of roasted pulp per half. I brushed them with olive oil, sprinkled them with a bit of my garlic powder, salt, pepper, tiny-bit-of-Rosemary spice then topped them with grated Parmesan cheese and baked them in the oven. It didn't take long. I scooped them out of their shells and discarded the shells then ate the mixture. It was quite good. The grated Parmesan had just ever so slightly melted a bit then toasted so that it was a little crunchy. I will try that again, maybe getting a jar of Pizza Sauce to add sort of like Ketchup to it once it's done and scooped out. They were so cute though. I had my Peeps that Jason got me for dessert.
For some reason I kept thinking yesterday was Monday all day, then realized that it wasn't and that David went back to work today. I scooted over to take him his birthday presents and visit with him a bit. He will have his presents to play with a little bit on his birthday that way before he goes into work today. He seemed pleased with the things in his present and we had a laugh all over again about the "silly salespeople" when he found his plant stakes and asked, "Oh, are these the ones..."
He gave me a purple cherry tomato plant and a Cubanelle pepper plant for my garden. I would still like to get an eggplant to plant in the garden but that's going to be it as I want to scale the garden back this year.
I played with 'Penny, the Wonder Dog' a bit noticing how her back was all yellow. I accused her of having a 'yellow streak down her back a mile wide!' Of course it was a light pollen dusting. Since she's basically black, it shows up on her quite well. The news said that oak, mulberry, and pine are the worst offenders. I knew pine threw out a thick yellow pollen from living in pine-populated Louisiana all those years but mulberry? Where in the area are there enough mulberry trees to put out any sizable amount of pollen? I haven't seen a mulberry tree in years. I did see the wind blowing 'pollen dust clouds' around a time or two yesterday. It darned near looked like yellow fog! First time I've ever seen it that bad!
Tomorrow evening it will rain, which should knock down a lot of the pollen and cooler temperatures with be with us again, actually 'normal' temperatures for this time of year. The news said we've been running 15 degrees above our normal temperatures lately. As a result, they went on to point out that it was a problem for the peach farmers. We had cold temperatures in March and then one week later temperatures so hot it's caused all the peach blooms to open at one time. The farmers say that means all the peaches will grow and ripen at the same time, flooding the market with peaches and they won't be able to keep them up at a decent price. Well, I'mm looking forward to a lot of affordable peach cobblers! I still have to get out in the back yard and spray my peach tree.
