theatrical_muse TM 196 - One Wish

Congratulations! You’ve been granted one wish. What is it?

Suppose that this isn't exactly .. a difficult question to answer.

If I could have one wish granted to me (and my daughters, of course), I would ask for just another day with their Mum. I would like for her to see them, to see how they've grown, even in a time as little as two years. I think she would like to see how strong and resilient they are. And how they've blossomed, and will continue to blossom.

I think, though, that I'd prefer the wish to take place when the girls are older, maybe around the age of Uni or something along those lines. I think that as they're developing into beautiful, young women, their mum would be most proud. Not that she wouldn't be now, of course, but there's a different kind of respect and honour that comes when your children are older, I think.

It's like that movie, Artificial Intelligence, that Haley Joel Osmond was in. He just wanted one more day with his mum. My girls are in the role of Osmond's character, except I would never desert them in the middle of a forest. And, of course, the ending brought me to an absolute bawl, but that's neither here nor there.

I always wonder how the girls would have been different had their mum still been around. Had she been around to sneak them sweets before supper, or had she been around to make them miniature versions of a true, English breakfast (which they adore, and I've been absolute rubbish at making, unfortunately). Or if they had someone whose plaits they actually fancied, instead of random twists and sometimes knots.

Philippa always had a way of simply making things better. Making things happier, even just by being in the room. She encouraged without being too idealistic. She criticised without being too harsh. And she loved, unconditionally, each and every day.

I just wish she could see how her girls are turning out to be the same.
