He was sitting on the beach. When he wanted to think, that was where he went. The sun was sinking into the ocean and he knew he would be able to take his sunglasses off in a few moments. His eyes locked on the large orange ball as the water swallowed it up. He could not help but think that watching the sun fall below the horizon was like watching the death of the star.
As the sun disappeared, he took his sunglass off and rubbed his eyes. There was a time when he would have wondered at how he ended up thinking about death and dying as often as he did. The thoughts were counterproductive to the work he did. Being tangled up in considering your own demise was distracting and could get you killed.
Now, the thoughts did not bother him as much. He was soon to be married and his future wife was Death. He was about to married the embodiment of the thing he had been dealing and trying to stay ahead of for the majority of his life. He grunted and started to shake his head slowly, laughter following a few moments later.
He would never understand people who actually feared death. It was an inevitable part of living. And, as he had discovered, She was inescapable. There was no place you could hide from Her. He would not have it any other way.
His phone pressed to his ear, he called for his airline ticket. He could not promise to stay for Christmas dinner, but the holiday in Los Angeles might be interesting. He did not worry about spending it with Kat. She would find him.
