Pepparkakar Hus!

I had no plans for this friday until I came up with an ingenious idea while shopping for groceries with Birthe. Make a ginger bread house!!!! For 22kr = less than $4CND you could buy all the ginger bread in a kit to make the houses. It made me very excited.

So on Friday Amy (BC, Canada) and Jena (also BC but not with Rotary...friend of Amy's family who is working here for a year) came over and we spent the whole evening constructing and then decorating our houses. This is me with the initial pieces of my house (hus på svenska).

Sticking our houses together was not as hard as I had anticipated...although getting the sugar to melt took a while (we were worried that it would burn!). After the inital constuction was finished it was on to the icing and candy! We went to the 4.90 store and bought candy for our houses...alot of candy. Lets just say that the candy cost more than our house kits...haha but I won't say how much! Jena made the icing from scratch from her moms recipe...it was super good although we were a little wary at first. Sorry I doubted your icing abilites Jena! You can see me decorating my house with my home made icing bag. In the background you can see the box from the kit. I copied the decorations on the box and I actually was able to make a decent recreation of it...minus some sloppiness of course. I just couldn't make my hearts as pretty as the ones on the box!

Me with my finished house! Isn't it pretty! Jena, Me and Amy with our finished houses. Jena and Amy took up the challenge of fitting as much candy as possibly on their houses. I think they did fairly well don't you?

Doesn't this just make you want to make a ginger bread house too? It is really fun so go ahead and try it!
