What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?
Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War by Mary Roach
Another fascinating book by this author. I think it suffers from being *such* a broad topic that the specific niches Roach investigates tend to feel a bit arbitrary, but still enjoyable.

The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab
I quite enjoyed the book but wasn't wild about the narrator. I think I would have liked it more if I'd read instead of listened.

Heart2Heart: A Charity Anthology Vol 4 by various authors
This is an anthology of shorts, so I've been reading them in between things or when I have a shorter amount of time to spare. A lot of duds, as I expected, but a few decent ones as well.

No Good Deed (The Heretic Doms Club #4) by Marie Sexton
I ended up liking this one more than #3, thankfully, but not quite as much as the first two. Still, I did enjoy it and the series overall!

Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
I honestly did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I did! You get multiple POVs from various people along both sides of the Gettysburg battle, and I thought the author did a really brilliant job bringing the war, battle, and characters to life. I can see why this is called "the classic novel of the civil war" as it's certainly one of the most engaging books on the topic I've read.

-Huitlacoche (Corn Smut) by
velvetglove (Smallville, Clex)
-Hearthstone by

What are you currently reading?
The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Current non-fiction read! Pretty dense, but interesting so far.

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Current audiobook read. This has been a classic on my TBR list for ages, so I'm curious to see how I enjoy it!

Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
I've heard great things about this one and I'm doing a buddy read with a friend. Only a few chapters in, but I like the writing so far.

What do you think you’ll read next?
Anti-Diet by Christy Harrison
Next non-fiction read!

Pieces of You (Missing Pieces, #1) by N.R. Walker
This author can be a bit hit or miss for me (with more hits than misses), and I'm honestly really not keen on memory loss as a trope, so not sure how this will go... But book two in this series just came out so I should probably read book one...

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JKR
Some RL friends and I planned a buddy read of this series ages ago. We debated calling it off in wake of JKR's recent transphobia, but, frankly, I'm not willing to let her trash opinions ruin a series that has meant so much to me, and I honestly stopped listening to her years ago. I get why people feel they need to get rid of the books and distance themselves from the series, and while I know longer plan to be supporting JKR monetarily (by purchasing HP stuff, etc.) I already own the books. I'm actually looking forward to discussing them again with A. the people who I essentially originally read them with when we were all growing up and B. people not as entrenched in fandom and fanon, just to hear their perspectives.
