I veiwed a movie in plainville last nite. So heres a reveiw.
THIS WEEK!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
*sigh* It is just impossible for good movies to be made these days, isn't it?
I feel bad for Tim Burton for having to take it upon himself for succesfully making one of the best movies of the decade, and possibly one of the best remakes of all time, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Normally, I dislike the idea of remakes of old movies. I usually feel like it's being stripped of something good and nessesary. And, I'll be honest, I wasn't too fond of the idea of a remake of this classic film. But I soon discovered that 1. Tim Burton was directing, 2. Danny Elfman was composing the score and 3. Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. *dies of excitement*
Since The Nightmare Before Christmas, I've thought of Burton as nothing less than a far above average movie genius, and Elfman to be the same, only in regards to composing. (for some of you dense fucks out there, Danny Elfman also composed the scores for Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and just about every other Burton movie ever made. He also composed the Simpsons theme) So, I wasn't too afraid of this remake, although I still had my reservations.
Mostly about the Oompah-Loompahs.
Now, for all my fellow Oompah-Loompahphobs out there, you'll be glad to know that the Oompah-Loompahs in the remake weren't nearly as spooky as the original ones, although they didn't really have the same effect. They actually reminded me of the NBHS Show Choir (thats something to tell Dan later). Their songs were much cooler than the original ones. At points, I felt that it was a little cheesy, but it was, after all, a kids movie.
Acting-wise, the actors playing characters other than Willy Wonka, were great. Johnny Depp was freaking awesome. I mean, like, have-a-seziure awesome. Seriously, the facial expressions, the vocal expressions, the quirky personality, everything. all too much for me to say. Go see it yourself.
Now, onto special effects. AMAZING!!!!! Everything in that movie was so beautiful. Everything. There are too many for me to write about, so, again, go see for yourself.
THANK YOU TIM BURTON FOR MAKING MY.... YEAR!
*****five out of five stars.
