Cold Lights (OC) willowanderer November 30 2011, 03:48:17 UTC
She'd said to wait, so she waited.
It was cold, and after a while it had started to snow, but she had waited, grateful for her fur hat and raising her fur muff to her nose. After all, she wouldn't forget her, so she'd come back.
People moved past, arm in arm, hurrying home from the snow that covered the world around her, and she pressed her booted feet together in an attempt to share the warmth, and looked down the street, and how the gaslamps caught the snowflakes in the air From time to time they'd nod and smile, and a gentleman asked her once if she was lost; but she assured him it was fine, she was waiting for someone and they'd be there soon. He tried to strike up a conversation and she'd turned her face away, untill he'd gotten bored and left her be at last, which let her breath a sigh of relif, since if he'd tried to press his suit she wasn't sure what she could have done.

. It was so still that as the noises of the city faded, she could hear the snow and it made her smile. For a moment she closed her eyes to listened for the footsteps that would be her approach- surely she'd be coming soon; and they'd laugh at the delay and head home.

Her eyes opened and she saw that the snow had covered her as well, making her dove gray wool cape seem white, flakes caught on her lashes as well, making the little bits of light twinkle magically. She smiled and her eyes closed again.

From time to time, she would open her eyes, watching people pass, which was odd since she'd thought that everyone had gone home- sometimes there were crowds and sometimes there were just a few scattered people. The sky would look like dusk- or late at night, mysteriously changing, just as the coats passers by changed. No one stopped to greet her now, but she knew that it was only a matter of time before she returned, so she waited on the end of the bench in the snow.

"So weird."
"What is it?"
"I could have sworn that empty bench had someone in it.."
"Aw, baby, don't worry, probably just a trick of the light, with all this snow blowing around."
"Yeah, probably it looked like a woman in one of those old fashioned coats with the big skirts under it? and a fur hat."
"Brrr. I don't think even that'd be enough to keep you warm in this cold."
"Yeah. It must have jsut been the light on the snow, though, since she was just all white all over. I think my eyeballs are freazing."
"Let's go, it's Christmas eve, and I have some celebrating I want to do."
"Promise me you'll warm me up?"
"Oh yeah."
