I HATE THE SUN!!!:
The weather in philly has done a complete 180. It’s about 80 degrees and sunny, not the typical London-esque rain and cold we have had to put up with for the last few weeks. I can’t say that it is any better or worse than the cold weather though. I mean lugging a coat and everything to the Drex can be quite a bitch, but its also annoying to be sweating like a pig during class. I just got out of my ISYS 350 class which is in this room that basically doubles as a green-house - ugh! Even the CRC is warm.
GATEWAY IS TAKING TOO LONG… TIME FOR A THINKPAD:
Anyway, lemme tell you what I have been up to. I purchased an IBM Thinkpad on Friday night. I opted for the IBM X31 Thinkpad Model: 2672JHU w/ a/b wireless & Bluetooth, not to mention a 1.4Ghz Pentium M and 855 Chipset (both
Centrino components). This bad-boy weighs in at a measly 3.6lbs which should make it ideal for trips to and from Drexel. Rather than bore you with all the detail about the X31 I thought I would just provide a few links so that if you are interested, you can do your own reading…
IBM's Official Product Pages - X31 ThinkPadCNET's X31 Product Review (Pretty General)AnAndTech's Detailed Review of the IBM X31 (Extremely Detailed w/ more pictures) … I will include pictures of my X31 when it arrives later this week. Until this enjoy the ones included in the article above. Having this computing tool at my fingertips means more frequent blogging for all you regulars.
GRABBIN’ SOME CL*ASSES* AROUND PHILLY:
I had a Discrete Mathematics test on Tuesday that may or may not spell disaster. I haven’t received a grade back yet, but you can infer what you will when and if I decide to drop the class. I will probably forego going into the city tomorrow because my SOC 250 class has been canceled, and as fun as PSY101 is, I just can’t see putting out all that effort and money for a single class. The class has 200+ people in it, I doubt I will be missed. So I’m basically off tomorrow, and I don’t have to be in until 10am on Friday, which is a little later than the typical 9am. My family is entertaining a multitude of “out-of-town” guests on Thursday night, so I’m pretty sure that will keep me plenty busy, despite my day off. Hopefully my Thinkpad will arrive before weeks end. IBM said it shipped yesterday around 2pm and it is slated for 2-Day Air Delivery. We’ll see how reliable UPS really is… what can “brown” do for me!
”FRAILTY” - NOT A BAD FLICK:
Over the weekend, I watched
Frailty. For those of you that don’t remember this film was released back in 2001, but did not amount to much at the box office. I had read about it then, and I found the plot summery intriguing.
Frailty was a pretty good film, with a somewhat twisted ending. It was billed as a horror/thriller and many reviewers remarked that it was the scariest film since
The Sixth Sense. After watching both these films, I can honestly say, I found neither one especially terrifying. Nevertheless, the story is interesting and keeps you locked in the entire time. The ending is particularly weird, but amusing in its weirdness. If you’re looking for a little brain tease, and aren’t bothered by a little blood and guts here and there… be sure to check out
Frailty I have two other
netfilx that I need to watch and ship before the week is out -
The Anniversary Pary a black comedy written, directed, and staring Alan Cumming that is supposed to be really twisted, funny, and dark. Also
The Big Kahuna another comedy starring Danny DeVito, Edward Norton, and Kevin Spacey --- can you go wrong with a cast like that??? I will be sure to weigh in on these films within the week.
”SPIRITED AWAY” ON DVD
FYI -
Spirited Away is currently available on DVD as of Tuesday, April 15th 2003. Be sure to check out this fantastic anime. I can hardly wait to get
Princess Mononoke from
Netflix (another anime from the same director).
Anyway, that about does it for this entry, hopefully my next will be submitted from an X31 from a place more hospitable than the Rush Building CRC on 33rd & Arch.
