The question isn’t, who is going to win, but rather will you like outcome when it ends? Ultimately at the very end, the race is between “you” and “yourself”. The path of least resistance is usually never the better path to take. There are no short cuts in life, only short up comings when you realize that you just cheated yourself. You take your punishments as well as your rewards.
