Of course, Bastian was headed back inside, after having spent the entire day outside at the lake. It wasn't strange to have found him out there, but now that it was four in the afternoon, he figured that he should probably do something productive.
Would he actually end up doing that? Probably not, but it was a nice thought.
So he was striding through the halls, humming to himself as he thought about what he should do that is so productive. For that reason, he wasn't really looking out for other people -- he figured everyone else would be outside, or doing something. Not wandering the halls!
Thud!
His shoulder hit Emily's side as he ran straight into her, and he immediately reached out to try and steady her and make sure she was okay. "Oh, I'm sorry!"
Emily was jolted suddenly out of her daydreaming when she collided with someone else, letting out a quiet "ow!" Not because she wanted to make anyone else feel bad or anything, but just because, well, that had hurt! "No, I'm... sor..."
Oh. Oh, lord. Was she still dreaming some very odd, but very nice dream?
Her voice grew quieter and trailed off as Emily looked up and saw exactly who she had managed to run into. And he had touched her! And... and... wow, it was Bastian. She figured that he probably didn't even know who she was, but she was pretty much staring at him now, her cheeks suddenly flaming red.
When Bastian saw the way that she'd trailed off and was blushing, he thought that maybe he'd hurt her more than he'd thought. Maybe he'd jolted her brain or something, and that was a bad thing!
Brushing off her shoulders and dropping his arms to his sides, he added apologetically, "I didn't mean to hurt you, I was just heading in... you are okay, right?"
As for knowing who she was? Well, he knew that she was a Hufflepuff, because of her robes, but other than that? No, he had absolutely no clue who she was or anything about her at all. He didn't even know what year she was in.
Bastian Myles was brushing off her shoulders. And talking to her! And looking directly at her! He was being so nice, too, and Emily felt like she could just melt right down into the stone floor at the moment.
He'd definitely jolted her brain, though. Just not from running into her; no, he accomplished that just by being near her.
Like... within five feet of her. Oh, lord.
Suddenly she realized that she hadn't answered him, and her cheeks flushed even more, if that were even possible. "I'm f-fine," she managed to stammer out somehow, feeling like the most awkward idiot that there ever had been. "It's not a... I mean, are... are you okay? I didn't... didn't mean to get in your way or... or anything..."
