Ed wondered if Ashleigh actually knew. How amazing she was, how grateful he really was for her through all of this. He hadn't exactly told her in so many words, but Ed never had been one to just come out and say things.
He smiled when he opened his eyes to find her awake, looking at him with that same look of love and concern she been wearing since it happened. It was, possibly, his first genuine smile in a week.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" he asked as he pushed gently at a strand of hair that had fallen into her eyes. He leaned in and kissed her then, a lingering touch of lips, as if to demonstrate just how much.
He pulled back after a moment, lightly caressing her cheek. "You're amazing, Ash.." he whispered, raining little kisses over her jaw and down her neck. His hands wandered downward, over arms and hips and something clicked in that moment.
It was going to be okay.
For the first time in a week, Ed believed that. Things were going to be alright, because they had to be. Because he still had Ash and their unborn child to take care of and there was no way he was losing either of them. Ever.
"I love you," he told her softly, in case that hadn't been clear, smiling as he brought his lips back to hers, wondering idly if they couldn't get away with spending the next several hours just like this.
