Maible didn't know how on earth she was expected to actually focus on OWLs when so much was going on. First a student gets killed and now two more are missing - who just happened to be the best friend and boyfriend of someone who was basically a member of her own family? And Ash and Ed were upset...
How could they possibly expect her to concentrate?
Somehow, though, life was apparently meant to go on, even with her brother-in-law dead and people she cared about hurting. Ash had to keep teaching and Maible still had to sit OWLs in a month.
She'd made this trip to the library, just as she had almost every other day that week, for that purpose - to force herself to get some work done, but it wasn't going well. She was worried about Ash, because no matter how many times she insisted she was fine, she knew she wasn't.
Focus, Gallagher, she told herself sternly. She was NOT going end fail her OWLs and end up like Mother over this. If anything else, she was more determined to make something of herself and she was going to ace those exams if she had to die trying.
