Ed was pacing around the room, wondering where his wife was. She should have been here. She was always here at this time and he had been waiting for a good half an hour and.. no Ashleigh. Considering the times they lived in, he couldn't help but worry and he was about to go out looking for her when he heard the click of the door opening followed by her voice.

Laughing a little at himself for having been so concerned, he moved to greet her with a kiss and his most charming smile.

"How was your day, love?"

Ashleigh smiled over her shoulder at her husband as she put the last of her things away. "Great," she answered, turning into him, returning his kiss and smile. Her arms wrapped around him and her she looked up into his eyes. "What about you? How was your day?"

Normally she was hard at work, making him wait before they headed 'home' to their quarters, but she couldn't help enjoying this, too. Almost like coming home to him, even if this was her classroom and not their living area.

As she looked up at him, she thought of simply blurting it out but there had to be a better, more romantic, 'surprise!' way to tell him that he was to be a father.

"Mmmm.. I missed you," he murmured in responce as he brushed his lips over hers. "Work was dreadfully dull - all patrolling with Lando and none of you to keep things entertaining."

He grinned to show that he was maybe teasing a little and definitely in one of his playful moods as his arms tightened slightly around her and he kissed her again.

Ashleigh grinned up at him, more than willing to return each and every one of his kisses. "Mmmm," she smirked. "I don't think they would allow me to come and keep you as... entertained as I like to keep you at home."

She was also in a playful mood, and the fact that the entertainment she was speaking of was what had gotten them into this particular situation, made her eyes glimmer with mischief just a bit more than normal.

She smiled into the kiss, hardly able to control it. She tightened her arms around him, "The Great Hall for dinner?" she questioned in a completely innocent tone. "Or did you want me to burn something up for us?"

Okay, truthfully, it had been a very long time since she'd actually burned anything -extra brown doesn't count, after all- and her cooking did continue to improve over the years. However, she couldn't help still picking on herself about it... especially when he was so much better at it than she was.

"Mmmm, true," he conceded, pouting just a little as his eyes sparkled a little mischievously.

"The Great Hall," he answered with a laugh. "Unless you wanted to pop into Hogsmeade for some fish and chips at the pub?"

He wasn't picky, either way, so long as he got to spend some quality time with his Ash.

"Going out sounds nice.."

She stood there a moment, biting her lip. She wondered if she should tell him now... that maybe she shouldn't break the news in the middle of a pub. Not that she thought the news would be unwelcome... it was just impersonal when done in the middle of... everything.

"I went to see Evie today," she announced calmly as she moved over to her bag and shifted through it a bit before she realized that she wasn't exactly looking for anything. On a whim she pulled out a piece of hard candy and fidgeted with the wrapper as she looked at him.

It dawned on her then that he hadn't questioned why she hadn't been there when he'd arrived, but she didn't think too much of it.

He hadn't mentioned it, but he had wondered. It seemed that he was maybe was going to get an answer anyway.

"Did you?" he asked, moving over to her and pulling her into his arms, brushing his lips softly over her ear. "How did that go?"

Evie.. she was the school nurse, wasn't she? He was sure she was. He couldn't help worrying a little, wondering if it had been a social visit or if something was wrong.

"Are you sick? Is everything alright?" His lips pulled away as he pulled back to give her a worried look.

She frowned when his lips pulled away from her skin. Why did he have to stop? She'd been enjoying that quite a lot.

...

Oh yeah... she'd been speaking. There had even been a point to her words.

Her hand moved to cup his cheek when she realized that she'd accidentally worried him. "Oh no, I'm fine, love," she assured him. "Quite healthy."

She stood on her toes and pressed a kiss to his lips. "Nothing to worry about, really." Okay, that wasn't exactly true. There were loads of things to worry about... shopping to do... things to think about. However, he didn't have to worry about her and her health.

"You see," she tried to explain. "The nurse... she says..." Pause. "She says that I'm... that we're...

She sighed and rolled her eyes a bit playfully. There was no need for her to be so nervous about telling him. "We're going to have a baby," she told him, a smile playing over her lips.

Without thinking, Ed picked Ashleigh up and spun her around, kissing her soundly. He was beaming as he set her down, looking almost sheepish as he realised that maybe he shouldn't have spun her like that.

"A baby? Really? You're Sure? A baby?"

Ed hadn't, probably, ever said so much or sounded so excited in a single sentence before, but this was wonderful news!

Ashleigh hands tightened on his shoulders and she had to stifle a squeal when he spun them around. She returned his kiss, a smile playing over her lips and she was laughing when he set her down.

She nodded at his questions. "A baby," she answered. "Really." She smiled up at him. "She said that we're having a baby." She placed a soft kiss on his lips, clearly happy and excited by the news.

Ed's gazed moved down to his wife's belly, which was, of course, flat as ever and one hand dropped to rest lightly on her abdomen.

"A.. we've a little son.. or daughter in there."

His tone was oddly emotional and his eyes might have gone a bit misty, but it wasn't every day a bloke heard such news.

"I love you so much," he whispered, pulling her to him for a long and loving kiss.

Ashleigh smiled up at him.

The emotion in his voice and in his eyes made her own eyes moisten. It wasn't often that her husband was so open with his feelings... even if he was more open with her than most other people.

"We do," she agreed with a little nod. Her hand moved over his and she twined their fingers together, holding his hand on her stomach. The only thing that had really registered as she'd walked back here was 'baby'. He was right though, 'baby' certainly meant 'son' or 'daughter' and she suddenly found herself very excited and thinking about little blue and pink clothes.

"I love you." She returned his kiss, wrapping an arm around him and pulling him close. A tear did spill over to her cheek but it was complete happiness.

Something about Ashleigh made it easy for Ed to completely drop his guard and the way he looked at her now - there was love and pride and so much happiness in that look - was full of emotion. He bought his free hand to her cheek, wiping at the tear and smiling down at her.

Ed brushed his lips softly aganst his wife's, still smiling, kissing her gently and with so much love. "We.. we've got to celebrate this, love," he told her a little huskily, unable to keep the emotion from his voice.

This was absolutely the happiest day of his life.

She smiled up at him, returning each of his kisses, the look of love apparent on her face.

Ashleigh placed a soft hand on top of the hand touching her cheek. "What did you have in mind, love?" she questioned.

She knew that this would be taken as good news that her husband would be happy to hear it. However, this was certainly more than she could ever want or hope for and she was truly happy.

As she waited for an answer, she turned her head and pressed a soft kiss to his wrist, mumbling about loving him.

Ed grinned a bit wickedly as he considered her question.

Maybe for some people, this wasn't the idea time or place to get such news, but Ed was far too happy to feel that way. Ashleigh was pregnant with his child and he was thrilled. He pulled her into his arms, nearly crushing her in a hug right there in the Charms classroom, pulling back after a moment to plant his lips firmly on hers.

The kiss took on a life of it's own and he found himself rather caught up in the moment. His tongue pushed and swirled against hers while his hands moved slowly downward, caressing over her curves (and what lovely curves they were!) before settling on her hips.

What better way to celebrate, right?
