Normally, Ashleigh would have been in the Charms classroom grading papers long after classes let out. Today, however, she'd had a special errand and after that she'd taken a bit of a walk, trying to clear her head and sort everything out in her head.
She was supposed to have started her cycle two weeks ago... but nothing. She'd not mentioned it to Ed because... well, honestly, she was so wrapped up in other things that she didn't even notice until it was a week and a half over due. After that much time, she figured that she might as well stop by the Hospital Wing and see Evie so she would know exactly what was going on when/if she had to talk to him.
A few tests and the nurse had confirmed it. Ashleigh was pregnant.
She took the long way back to the Charms corridor, spending that time thinking up a million different, wonderful ways to tell Ed the happy news. Sure, it hadn't exactly been planned but it was very happy news, indeed. She wound up at the door to her classroom, still clueless ... but with a smile on her face.
It shouldn't have been a surprise to find him there, because it was nearly time for supper and Ed usually stopped by at that time to drag her away from her work. Still, she hated that she'd kept him waiting.
"Been here long?" she asked, trying to sound casual as she entered the classroom and moved to where he was standing near her desk.
